GENERAL

This document describes the hydrostatic pressure test of the spool piece for the
MPU Series B ultrasonic gas flow meter. The spool piece is sealed by blind flanges
and dummy transducers. The pressure is controlled by a pump unit. The test should
be performed with by trained personnel. Applicable HES procedures and routines
must be followed.

TEST PROGRAM
PREPARATIONS OF THE SPOOL PIECE

Mount dummy transducers in place of the original transducers. Only mount the
inner o-ring (size 18.77x1.78) and back-up ring (size 19.4x22x1.2) on the
transducer. Do NOT mount the outer o-ring or o-rings in the fastening or end
cover, as any leakage in the inner transducer o-ring must be revealed. If nozzle
extensions are used, o-ring(s) must be mounted for these.
Make sure that all bolts are tightened to the correct torque and that all parts are
undamaged, and check o-rings while mounting.
Both ends of the spool piece are sealed using blind flanges of required type and
pressure class. Check that the gasket is of required type. One blind flange should
contain two threaded holes, one for injecting liquid and one for ventilation.
Alternatively, blind flanges may have one hole each, or a pressure tap on the
spool piece may be used for ventilation. Preferably NPT is used. Tighten the
bolts with the required torque according to the flange pressure ratings.

and cleaned after hydrotest

Place the spool piece in a suitable area and connect the pump unit. The test fluid
shall be water containing suitable corrosion inhibitor.
Connect pressure and temperature transmitters to the recorder for logging test
pressure and ambient temperature.
Increase the pressure to 2 Barg and check for leaks.
Increase the pressure up to Test Pressure gradually to allow sufficient time for
the spool piece to equalize strains etc. Check for leaks during pressurization.
Allow a minimum of 15 minutes for temperature stabilization. Check that the
pressure is as required.
For the standard pressure test, the pressure shall not decrease more than 2%
during the 1 hour test period. Pressure drop and test duration may be project
specific, and are stated in the fill-in section. During the test period all joints are
to be checked for leaks. Be aware that varying ambient temperature will affect
the pressure in the spool piece.
The recorder shall collect pressure (and if available ambient temperature) data
during the entire test.

AFTER THE TEST IS PERFORMED

Depressurize the system gradually.


Dismantle the pump unit and empty the spool piece of liquid.
Remove necessary blind flanges and transducers to dry the inside of the spool
piece. Make sure that there is no liquid left in the transducer slots that can affect
signal testing on the flow meter spool piece.
