Reaction paper Putting the slapstick comedy aside, I believe that the play had a theme of Identity but I also considered Inequity as a major theme. I considered inequity because of two reasons. First, because the play started with two servant Dromios and by the ending, their state hasnt changed and still expect to be unfairly beaten by their masters. Second, an innocent merchant was to be executed for a crime he did not commit. These scenes prove that the ideals of justice and equity are not achieved by the end of the play and just show that, although they happen in real life situations, they simply cannot be avoided. I chose identity because of one realization. There are two pairs of identical twins but we see how they each have their own set of personalities and behavior. They may be identical but they are different people that have special bonds with other people. The play proves this by playing with their identities and showing that even though they are identical, it only results to confusion and chaos not just for them, but for the people around them as well. It tells us that we must accept ourselves as individuals with a unique identity and not just another drop of water in an open sea. I realize that everyone of us is identical and yet we must view ourselves as individuals who share a special bond with our friends and family because even if we are replaced by someone identical, we all know that it will not be the same special bond.
