The French revolution

The French Revolution began in the 1789 as a popular movement to reform the absolute rule of the monarch.
Which the French revolution had general causes of the end of the 18th century and particular causes that explain why it was
by far the most violent and the most universally significant of these revolutions. Which The French Revolution could have
happened without the Enlightenment because France was in debt for various expenditures, there was a weak
government and weak leadership, and there were rumours spreading throughout France which all led to social
unrest?

However louis was far an strong leader. He was uncertain and delayed but he would allow matter to drift in other
word he done what he want to do.If lous had listen to the government and his advidors instead of his wife his
decision which he made would have been much wiser. His leadership had been much do with Marie Antoinette
which louis allowed his wife in her desies to spend all frances money. A strong leader would have resisted and told
her no, or would have at least been able to fix the money situation. Louis XVI got terrible advice from Marie and
this helped to cause the downfall of his rule. This advice was only for her benefit, and did not help France The
ignorance of the government led almost all of the third estate to starvation, increased taxes, caused the economy
to decline, raised prices for food (especially bread), created debt for France through unwise spending, and many
more serious matters
The rumours that spread through France about the various issues had sacred the citizen of France and made them
to believe. Yet the third estate wanted their rights to be equal to the other classes. They created the National
Assembly, and devised a constitution inside the palace of Versailles. Louis XVI scared of the growing population
of nobles and clergies joining the third estate to create a constitution, so he placed the Swiss Guard outside of the
Versailles Palace (Lecture Notes). A rumour spread that he was going to use the guards against the National
Assembly and the French people. The rumour quickly spread over France, which made everyone scared and
rebellious. Citizens stormed the Bastille (prison) for weapons on July 14, 1789The citizens then attacked the palace
and killed numerous guards and the commander- and walked through the streets with their heads on sticks. This
was one of the first outbreaks by the people of France. They were unhappy with their rights and rebelled in order
to show that they were serious about changing things. When people get scared and question their government,
they usually do something about it rather than accept the situation. The French did this solely for greater rights,
and not because of the Enlightenment
It could be argued that the Age of Reason, otherwise known as the Enlightenment, caused the French Revolution.
This philosophical movement had great impact on the political thinking of the time and was even successfully used
in the American Revolution against the monarchial Britain. This theory, however, overlooks the simple fact that
revolutions do not happen over night and are caused, just like the American Revolution, by a multitude of social,
economic and political factors. For example Enlightenment ideas had been around since 1651. The groundbreaking
work of John Locke, Two Treaties on Government, advocating for a government by the people was in existence in
1690 yet French citizens did not rebel. They did not rebel because at this time France was enjoying the legacy of
Louis the XIV. Who left in his wake a flourishing France. By 1715 France ranked above all other European nations
in art, literature, and statesmanship during Louiss reign. In addition, France was considered the military leader of
Europe. This military might allowed France to develop a strong empire of colonies, which provided resources and
goods for trade (World History Textbook, 602). The Revolution happened as a series of disastrous social, economic
and political events began to plague France. Amongst them was indeed the Enlightenment. Yet these new ideas of
justice and equality had to be combined with a citizenry starving to death and a leader woefully inadequate to help
them in order for revolution to come
The French Revolution was a result of people striving to live better and become a greater country. The various
spending and debt of France cause people to fear their government was not looking out for their best interests.
The weak leadership caused France to become unsound and crumble under emerging pressures forcing the people
to realize their leader could not save them from the disaster. The rumors that spread through France made for
uncertainty and caused people to be frightened of the future, finally solidifying the citizens realization of the need
for a new government. Rumors spreading throughout France, unwise spending causing France to be in debt, and a
weak government and leadership prove that the French Revolution could have happened without the
Enlightenment because of the crisis of confidence that these events inspired. The French people stood up for their
rights and freedoms, involving themselves in a pattern that would happen many times over, in many nations all
over the world, and all through time.
