Suffered from mild-moderate Intellectual
Disabilities
Enrolled in 7 different schools but did not respond
positively to any environment.
Very shy, insecure, & hesitant personality. Unable to
participate in any group activity & suffered from a very
short attention span
Confidence further worsened when he saw his siblings
progress through life, leaving him stuck in the same
monotonous academic studies in other institutes

What is KVTC?
KVTC is a rehabilitation centre for Intellectually Challenged (IC) people.

It imparts the knowledge and skills needed for children, teens, & adults with Learning
difficulties (LD) &/or Mental Retardation (MR) gain success in the community as well
as in their personal lives

Annual Objectives
Secure well-paying jobs for at least 20 graduating trainees
Provide rehabilitation for over 140 trainees at the centre & 20 in home-based programs improving
their co-existence with their families & society in general
To parallel the chances of an intellectually challenged person for employment with that of a regular
person by raising awareness across society

A Short History
Established in 1991 in a rented flat at 2/C, 6th Sunset Commercial Lane, Phase
II Extension, DHA, Karachi, Sindh
First batch oftrainees: 12(KVTC placed 4 of these trainees on jobs in the 1st
yearof its inception)
The first Young Group classes began in1993
Moved to present location in 1994
In 2002 KVTC extended the original building raising our capacity to140
students
In May 2003, The Al-Rahman Training Hostel was initiated
Total Students admitted since inception: 4000

Was there a need for KVTC?


IC people are a significant 8% of Pakistans population
Lack of awareness about:
Preventive measures &/or early intervention
What they really are capable of

They are the most marginalized & vulnerable people in


the country
For an estimated 600,000 IC people in Karachi, there are
only 35-40 SEN schools
Virtually no Practical training & knowledge available
for IC people, that would enable them to survive in the real
world independently
