Father: No! It’s false! I didn’t steal anything. Our father gave it to me.
U: Everything was very easy for you. You had a good job.
F: It’s not only about money! When our were ill, my wife and I always looked after
them. Where were you then?
U: Where was I? Where was I? I was working in the factory and my wife was cleaning
day and night!
F: But why were you working in a factory? Because you didn’t follow our father’s
advice! I did it! I studied hard and that’s why I have a good job now!
U: You were always the lucky one... You had good marks at school, you married a rich
girl,... I didn’t get good marks, my wife didn’t have much money,...
U: Ok, but... what about our father’s money? It should be split in half!
(Father leaves)
U: I will kill him... (...and throws things on the floor) It’s not fair... he has a lot of
money, I have nothing,... I will kill him...
(Aunt arrives from the back of the stage and puts her hands around his shoulders)
A: Why?
U: It’s always the same! They have everything, and we have nothing! Trips, fashionable
clothes, luxury restaurants, expensive jewellery, and above all, all our father’s money!
(Diabolic music)
U: In theory yes! But in reality we never loved each other. He was the good son, they
only loved him, I was always outside their plans…
(he puts his hands holding his head and thinks, a bit worried, sad, looking at the floor)
A: (She looks at the audience and says) It’s time for a change! I have a plan (…and she
winks to the audience)
(Music)
(The aunts gets up, walks around and pretends she’s thinking)
A: Listen, today it’s Friday… You know that every Sunday morning your brother’s
family go on a picnic in the mountains. They always take their car at 9 o’clock and
drive for 30 minutes on that dangerous road by the sea. There have been a lot of
accidents there recently…
A: … and the brakes of the car are very important you know…
U: …and the cliffs are very high…

Father: Yes, she’s ill. We’ll all stay at home and wait for next Sunday.
T1: No, no! After so much rain, you can’t miss this wonderful sun! The grass is going
to be very green, you need to breathe fresh air and enjoy yourselves after working so
hard the whole week!
F: Yes, you are exactly the same age as her. You are twins!
T1: And, we are 16, we can entertain ourselves: watch TV, play computer games, play
cards, cook a light meal, listen to music,.. and you enjoy the day, and don’t forget your
camera! We’ll look at the photos in the evening.
T1: Positive!
F: Come on then! Have you got the cucumber sandwiches and the tea?
T1: Off you go! It’s late! Don’t forget your raincoats, you never know what may
happen…
F: Bye sweetheart!

SCENE 3: EXPLANATION AND SEPARATION
(The twins are in the middle of the scene playing cards. One is wearing a nightgown)
(The aunt and uncle appear from each side of the stage with a happy face and gesturing
the plan worked)
(They ring the bell and T1 opens the door)
A: There has been an accident! The picnic, the road, the cliffs, the brakes,… your
parents…
U: Sit down girls, there’s no hospital, your parents are… dead… they fell off the cliff
and died there. The doctors couldn’t do anything for them.
A: Girls, your uncle and I have been speaking about the situation. This is a terrible loss,
but life goes on. We think you are old and responsible but you can’t live on your own
yet.
U: We would like to take care of both of you but as you know, we don’t have a lot of
money to provide you with a good life and education.
A: We have found a very nice family who have no children and would like to take care
of one of you. They …
T1: Does it mean we will live in different houses? Go to different schools? Make
different friends?
A: We’re terribly sorry about all this, but it’s the only solution we found!
U: Don’t worry so much, we are sure that in a few months, you will have adapted to the
new situation.
A: And don’t forget your brother’s money, it’s also going to be ours!

and I don’t have enough time to study for my exams...

Jane: Because I want to get better marks. I want to study more, get good marks and one
day go to university.
A: I’m so happy darling! We have such a good life! Jane is really helping a lot in the

Dad: But we have to pay for the electricity, the water, the food...
T: (enters and takes a glass of water ) I’m thirsty. (sees the tired and worried faces of
her parents) What’s wrong?
M: Good morning!
T: Good morning! Mum, I’m not feeling very well. I have got a headache.
M: (touching her forehead)Yes, I think you have got a temperature. You should stay in
bed today.
D: I lost my job!
M: Ok.
T: I wish I could go to the library but in fact I’m going to work at the restaurant because
I know they need the money for the food, the light,...
Jane: Hey, how are you? We haven’t seen each other for a long time. What are your
new parents like?
Betty: They are very nice but we have problems with money.
Jane: Really?
Betty: Yes, I tell them I’m studying but instead, I am working at the restaurant to earn
some money.
Jane: Our aunt and uncle have a lot of money but they I think they don’t love me.
Sometimes I can’t finish my homework or study for my exams because I have to help a
lot with the housework.
Betty: They don’t care about your marks at school, do they...? I have an idea. Why don’t
we...?
Everybody leaves the basket on the floor and put their hands up.
Th: ... and you, give me all the money (to the cashier)
Cashier calls the ambulance (noise). Ambulance sound while they pick them up and
take them away
At a hospital room. There is a curtain which separates two beds. The doctor enters and
draws the curtain to talk to both of them.
D: You were very lucky... I think you can go home in the afternoon. I phoned your
parents and they are coming to pick you up later.
D leaves.
Betty: Before?
Jane: Yes, at the supermarket, when we were talking about our families.
Betty: Exchange families for a week: you will be me for a week and I’ll be you.
Jane: So, we’ll see how the other lives...and maybe I can help your parents with some of
my money!
Betty: Yes! and I’ll try to make our aunt and uncle see that money isn’t
everything.
(they swap beds and draw the curtain) (both parents enter from both sides of the stage
and take the wrong twin) (background music) (they leave)
Jane: She’s fine, what about you? Did you get the job, dad?
D: Yes, I don’t get a lot of money, but it’s better than nothing. The most important now
is that you are back.
Jane: Oh, thank you... and what about the problem with the electricity bill?
D: We can pay for some bills but not for all of them yet.
T: Don’t worry...
(lights out, music and lights on) Some days later (on a board)
M: I don’t understand, did you get some extra money when you got fired?
M: How is it that all our bills are paid and we don’t owe anything to the bank? I really
don’t understand...
D: Me neither.
Uncle: Aram
Aunt: Clàudia
Betty: Han
Betty: It’s such a lovely day today. I went to the market and bought all the ingredients
to prepare this. Then I really enjoyed making this meal for you.
A: Really?
Betty: Oh, yes, after the accident I realised that life is beautiful and we have to enjoy
every single moment!
Betty: Yes! You have a lot of money, but I don’t think you are happy. Do you enjoy
life?
Betty: Did you notice the beautiful day today? The sun? The flowers?...
U: You’re right... we haven’t been walking in the park for ages, we never enjoy the
sun,...
Betty: Would you like to come for a walk and enjoy the beautiful afternoon?
A: Now?
Betty: Oh, I’m very tired. I’m going to drink a glass of milk and go to bed.
A: Mm... it was really nice out there, we should do this more often...
A: Yes, watching her, I’ve realised that what you do or what you have is not important.
What’s important is the way you feel, the way you enjoy the small things of life.And...
Darling, don’t you feel a bit ashamed about our plan?
A: The accident , of course, I can’t stop thinking about it and I don’t feel very happy.
We killed them!
U: Don’t think about it anymore! This belongs to the past. Forget about it. It didn’t
happen!
