It was a terrible but real nightmare. On that Tuesday morning,
terrorists hijacked airliners, gouged towers, and many perished.
Our nation would never be the same. It is hard to believe that with
all of the TSA regulations, airport screening, and terrorist alerts that
such cautions became the new normal 15 years ago. We became a
nation under siege. We began to realize how much we were hated
by those of another religion. Of the over 3,000 who died, many of
us remembered friends or family among them. All of us will never
forget that day...9/11.
That Friday, on Calvary in Jerusalem, reminds us of that Tuesday in
New York, as goodness was murdered and Satan seemed to win;
demons danced; innocence was a
used. Just as the ash fell on
adults and children alike in New York, darkness fell on the Son of
God (Luke 23:44). Just as our tal
fireball, so the Tower of Eternity wa
est towers were toppled in a
s pierced and broken as Jesus
endured a fiery Hell for us. We remember people running down
Church Street as a cloud of smoky
concussion surged after them
like a monstrous tidal wave. People ran from Golgotha during the
darkness and the earthquake,
leaving Jesus to die alone,
forsaken" by God and man (Matthew 27:46).
We know that Satan did not win thousands of years ago or even
15 years ago. The Lord Jesus arose on Sunday. The Lord continues
to work in our world, though human depravity is unlimited: "Their
feet are swift to shed blood and in their paths are ruin and misery"
(Romans 3:15, 16). We also know that there is “the righteousness
of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe, for there is
no distinction” (Romans 3:22). For radical Islamists or Big Apple
businessmen, there is Christ's love and forgiveness.
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble;
therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the
mountains be moved into the heart of the sea...the Lord of Host is
with us, the God of Jacob is our fortress" (Psalm 46:1-7). He is the
Tower that no one, will ever topple.
