Ourclasswillmeeteverydayforblockperiodsofapproximately94minutes.Duringthattime,youcanexpect
tobepracticingyourreadingskillsforfictionandnonfictiontexts,collaboratingwithyourpeersinbookclubs
andgroupprojects,honingyourwritingskills,becomingknowledgeableaboutcurrentevents,andlearningall
aboutgeography,citizenshipandAmericanhistory.

Assessments:
Yourgradeforthiscoursewillbederivedfromavarietyofways:projects,essays,participation,performances,
oralpresentations,andtraditionalquizzesbeingamongthem.TYWLSAstoriawillcontinuetouseoutcome
basedgradingthisyear,whichmeansthatallassignmentswillbegradedasaNotYet,MeetsStandards,or
ExceedsStandards.YoucancheckyourprogressatanytimethroughJumpRopeat

GradingPolicy
Throughouttheschoolyear,studentswillbeprovided

multipleopportunitiestodemonstratetheirlevelof
masterywithintheTYWLSAstoriaoutcometargets.Allassignmentsandprojectsaretobecompletedbythe
deadlineestablishedinclass.Ifastudentisunabletosubmitadailyassignmentsuchasaclasswork
assignmentorhomework,shewillhave2daystosubmitit.Ifshemissesaprojectdeadline,shewillhave5
daystosubmittheproject.

ELATest:
InMarch,youmusttaketheNewYorkStateEnglishLanguageArtsTest.Thisexamisgivenoverthecourse
ofthreedaysandassesseslearningstandardsinthereadingandwritingmodalities.Ourcourseofstudywill
focusonenhancingtheseskillssothatyouwillbepreparedfortheexam.

AbsencePolicy
Itistheresponsibilityofthestudenttoobtainanynotes,assignments,andotherclassinformationwhensheis
absent.Studentscanobtainthisinformationbyemailingapeer,emailingyourteacher,orcheckingtheclass
website.Foreachclassastudentisabsent,shewillreceiveanadditionaldaytocompleteanassignment
