Experiment Name:

Study on color fastness to rubbing by crock meter.

Introduction:
The quality of a dyed material possessing resistance against washing, bright
light exposition, gas or by rubbing When exposed to light, gas, water, use, the dyed
material does not lose the color. Clothing is colorfast if its colors and dyes do not
bleed or run from the clothing. Clothing should be tested for colorfastness before
using any type of bleach or bleaching solution, or strong cleaning product.
Crock meter is mainly used to test color fastness of textiles, especially printer fabrics
to dry or wet rubbing. The device is highly efficient and produces precise results.
Crock meter is equipment widely used in the textile industry to test color fastness of
textiles particularly, printer fabrics to dry or wet rubbing. The primary function of the
crock meter is to examine colorfastness of fabrics to crocking, that is, the rubbing off
of dyes from a fabric surface onto another surface.
There are several types of fastness testing methods such as

Color fastness to wash

Color fastness to water
Color fastness to perspiration
Color fastness to light
Color fastness to rubbing

Color fastness to rubbing:

The fastness test to crocking or rubbing, for example, is widely used on a variety of
fabrics to evaluate the transfer of surface dye form the test fabric to a piece of white
cotton against which it is rubbed. In the dye house, the extent of removal of surface
color after soaping the dyeing is after often rapidly assessed by rubbing a sample of
the wet fabric against a piece of dry cotton. For a more quantitative and reproducible
assessment, however, a crock meter is used. This is a device in which the area of
contact, the time of abrasion and the applied force can be controlled. The can be
carried out under dry or wet conditions.

Objectives:
On behind of every experiment there must be some objects. At the same there
are some objectives on behind of this experiment. Whish are as follows:
P.T.O

To know about the color fastness of the given sample fabric.

To know the dyeing characteristic of fabric.
To know about crock meter.
To know the working principle of crock meter.
To know the color fastness of given sample.

Apparatus:

Crock meter
Crocking cloth
Water
Emery paper
Grey scale

Working procedure:
We have divided the total experiment into the following parts: At first cut the fabric as required
Set the fabric on the emery paper of crock meter
Then set the crocking cloth in the finger pin with clip
Rotate the handle of crock meter in ten times for rubbing the sample
Remove the crocking cloth from peg
In this way, we have done the rubbing for dry & wet condition of fabric

Result:
After completing any experiment there have a result by observing the experiment. At
the same we have a result for this experiment.
After completing our experiment we have find the color fastness of sample fabric both
in dry & wet condition by rubbing: Dry crocking: - Color fastness 4-5
Wet crocking: - Color fastness 3-4

Precaution:
Every experiment has some precaution. In this experiment we have take some
precaution as follows:

Cutting the sample fabric very carefully.

Setting the fabric on emery paper carefully & correctly
Put the crocking cloth in the finger pin very carefully
Rotating the handle for rubbing very carefully
Remove the crocking cloth very carefully

Remarks:
Color fastness testing is an initial & fundamental but important test for the fabric
manufacturers and garments or finish product manufacturers. According to buyer
requirement the color fastness have to be the range 4-5 & 5 of grey scale. So color
fastness should be that range for improving the quality of the manufacturer. After the
entire customer always interact by the color of product. So its a major & important
factor for textile testing & quality control.
Therefore from the above we can easily understand the importance of the experiment
in the field of textile quality control. We want to establish us as a qualified
professional skilled manpower of this sector for that we practice this experiment in
textile testing & quality control lab.
Our teacher & lab assistant helps us for completing this experiment correctly &
carefully thats why we have done this experiment very well.
At last we can say we are successful about this experiment.
