Itinerary Specially Prepared for

STRATHCONA-TWEEDSMUIR SCHOOL

Soak it Up 100% Pure New Zealand Rugby Tour March/April 2017


DAY 1 - SATURDAY 25 MARCH
Arrive into Christchurch.
Christchurch is a garden city on the east
coast of New Zealands South Island, set on
the Canterbury Plains. Flat-bottomed punts
glide on the Avon River, which runs through
the city centre. On its banks are cycling
paths, the green expanse of Hagley Park
and the Christchurch Botanic Gardens.
Attend a Crusaders match at AMI Stadium this evening,
subject to the 2017 Super Rugby draw
DAY 2 - SUNDAY 26 MARCH
A training session with your own coaching staff is
planned for this morning.
This afternoon depart for Spencerville, just north of
Christchurch for some team building fun among the
trees!! Adrenalin Forest is a multi-level aerial obstacle
course!! It includes 6 pathways from 1.5 to 20
meters high, 100 challenges and is more than 2km
long.
DAY 3 - MONDAY 27 MARCH
This morning you will be joined for breakfast by a
celebrity New Zealand rugby player. Learn about the life
of a professional rugby player over breakfast, there will
be an opportunity for photographs and autographs.

Then time for your 2 hour Total Rugby Training


Experience with elite level local coaches.
Canterbury and the Crusaders are the most
successful rugby organization in the world.
Rugby is a massive part of the community
scene in Christchurch and coaches here are amongst the best in
the world. You will work with coaches who highly qualified and
experienced. This tour feature is consistently rates as one of the
highlights of our tour packages
Early afternoon depart by coach for a Christchurch
city sightseeing tour. You will see a city in recovery
following the earthquakes that rocked Canterbury
during 2011 and 2012.Most of the demolition of
damaged buildings is now complete and the
rebuild is underway. The cost of the rebuild is
currently estimated at more than NZ$40 billion!!
Who can count the most road cones!!!
This evening is a celebration of New Zealand culture. Ko Tane
is a living Maori Village located at Willowbank Wildlife Reserve.
Here maori culture and conservation meet to give a glimpse
into the way of the life of the South Island Ngai Tahu maori
people before the arrival of the Europeans. Experience the
thrill of the wero, the traditional challenge to visits. Join in the
laughter as you take part in a performance of the haka or
the poi dance and be entertained by the songs and games
performed by the kapa haha group. Take a guided tour and
get close to kiwi, kea and other native species. Enjoy a hang
dinner included in the evenings entertainment.
DAY 4 - TUESDAY 28 MARCH
First stop this morning is at New Zealands only clay
base go kart track, Action Karts Indoor Raceway for
some high speed fun on the race track.

Then its time to get cold with a visit to the


International Antarctic Centre. Established in 1992,
the Antarctic Attraction is located in the heart of a
working Antarctic campus at Christchurch
International Airport. Ride the Hagglund all terrain
vehicle. Sit back, hold on and experience travelling
across rough terrain in this unique
and exciting
machine This ride is the only one of its type in the

world!! Watch the 4D movie and the little blue penguins being fed then head
into the snow and ice experience and survive an Antarctic storm..
Match 1 this afternoon
Match and aftermatch.
Today you will play your first New Zealand team
and likely face your first haka. This will be an
experience in itself. The haka is a traditional
Maori challenge that our All Blacks perform at the
start of each match. Nearly all First XVs in New
Zealand have their own version of the haka.
DAY 5 - WEDNESDAY 29 MARCH
CRUSADER EXPERIENCE
The Crusaders are the most successful rugby
organisation in the world. Canterbury Rugby
also dominates New Zealand rugby having 7
out of the last 8 national titles. Spend time at
the Franchises HQ and gain an understanding
of how this incredible organisation operates.
Watch the team train (draw permitting), listen
to staff talk about how they operate within the
team environment and organisation, tour their
facilities and enjoy a two hour coaching session with some of the best
coaches in the business.
This will be undoubtedly one of the highlights of your tour.
DAY 6 - THURSDAY 30 MARCH
Depart Christchurch by coach for Hanmer
Springs.Travelling north from Christchurch through the
vineyard region of Waipara, travel time is approx. 1.5
hours.
Stop just south of Hanmer Springs at Thrillseekers base
for a New Zealand jet boat experience. The jet boat was
invented here in New Zealand by William Hamilton in
1954 and has opened up many otherwise inaccessible
areas of New Zealand - unlike a conventional propeller
the jet boat has an impeller above the water line
enabling it to travel through extremely shallow water (3
or 75mm). Jet the entire length of the spectacular Waiau
Gorge. Following the contours of the steep canyon walls
where possible, elbows in as
you pass within
centimetres of rugged rocks and cliff faces. Take in the

magnificent scenery, then .hold on while you experience the famous


Hamilton jet spin

A short drive to Hanmer Springs and a visit to the world famous hot pools at
Hanmer Springs Thermal Reserve. Set in a breathtaking natural landscape,
surrounded by forests and mountains, the award-winning Thermal Pools offers
visitors a wide range of experiences, from soothing indulgence to exciting
family fun. The Thermal Pools & Spa includes nine open-air thermal pools,
three sulphur pools and two waterslides.

Depart Hanmer Springs and travel the Lewis Pass to Westport, arriving late
afternoon
DAY 7 - FRIDAY 31 MARCH
A training session with own coaching staff on Carters Beach this morning
This afternoon join Norwest
Adventures for your underworld
rafting experience - a superb 4
hour black water rafting trip in the
Paparoa National Park. Catch the
Nile River Rainforest Train through
rainforest and towering limestone
cliffs of the Nile River Canyon. A
short climb, then enter the
enormous Nile River Cave System where you meander through a calcitic
paradise of stalactites and stalagmites in the upper dry levels of the cave.
Down in the lower active levels of the cave, you meet up with a slow moving
underground river on which you float in your tube using only the natural light
of a simply awe inspiring display of glow worms for navigation. You emerge

from the cave into a remote and untouched world before leaving its
tranquility for the rushing bubbling waters of the low grade Nile River rapids.
DAY 8 - SATURDAY 01 APRIL
Depart for Blenheim, enjoy a stop at scenic St Arnaud enroute.

DAY 9 - SUNDAY 02 APRIL


Match 2 this afternoon
Match and aftermatch.
Todays game will be a chance to put into practice the
lessons learnt from your first match and to further
develop your understanding of how the game is
played in New Zealand
Late afternoon a pool recovery session at the
Marlborough Aquatic Centre

DAY 10 - MONDAY 03 APRIL


Depart Blenheim for the inter-island ferry terminal at
Picton.
The 92 km, three hour journey between Picton and
Wellington is one of New Zealand's most iconic tourist
experiences, and one of the most spectacular
cruises in the world. Enjoy the views.

DAY 11 - TUESDAY 04 APRIL


A free morning in Wellington. We suggest a
visit to Te Papa National Museum and a ride
on the cable car. From the top of the cable
car ride there are great views over
Wellington Harbour

Your second 2 hour Total Rugby Training Experience


with elite level local coaches will be held this
afternoon

DAY 12 - WEDNESDAY 05 APRIL


Transfer to Wellington International Airport to begin your journey home.
Your Tour Arrangements Terminate
