Reflection
Story telling is defined as the interactive art of using words and actions to reveal the
elements and images of a story while encouraging the listener's imagination. Story telling is
interactive and encourages the active imagination of listeners. We were assigned to tell a
creative story telling as it is one of our tasks for our assignment. We were given privileged to
choose stories of our own. Firstly, I look for materials from various sources such as internet,
magazines, books and many more. After collecting suitable materials I adapted the story and
include some interesting element in the story. I have selected the story entitled The Hare
and The Tortoise.
I have learned many things through story telling presentation. Firstly, I was able to
know my capability in telling a story to pupils. I was able to memorize the story within a short
period of time and able to deliver the story well. Moreover, I did not look at any notes during
the story telling. This is because I practice the story for few times before present the story to
the class. I was able to present in the given time which is 5 minutes. I realised that the time
taken for the story to present is equally important. In other words, we should not rush and
finish the story fast as it will be hard for pupils to know the story and at the end of the day
they lose focus during the story telling.
Secondly, I was able to capture pupils heart by changing the story that they have
know earlier. For instance, in the story The Hare and the Tortoise the hare wins at the end
of the race and the tortoise loses but in my story both the Hare and Tortoise wins the race
together. Pupils were eager to know the ending of the story s it has rising action, climax,
resolution, etc. In addition, I have included some interesting elements to add flavours to the
story. I was able to tell the story at the appropriate pace. Besides, I have used props for the
story telling. For instance, I have used props like hair band with Hare ears and many more. I
have used the props appropriately in the story.
Furthermore, I was able to tell the story with good pronunciation and also with correct
intonation. I was also able to change my voice for the characters in the story as it is able to
attract pupils attention. Through storytelling, I have realised I was able to tell the story
clearly and explicitly. Moreover, I have realised pupils are able to understand my story as
they responded to my question and stay focused during the story telling.
In conclusion, storytelling gave me a golden opportunity to brush up my storytelling
skills. I was also able to know the techniques to use for storytelling.
