Course: Drawing

3-Point Perspective

Medium: Graphite/Colored Pencil


Duration: 7 days

Materials

Performance Standard: Through experimentation, practice, and persistence,


demonstrate acquisition of skills and knowledge in a chosen art form.
Anchor Standard 2: Organize and develop artistic ideas and work.
Performance Standard: Engage in constructive critique with peers, then reflect
on, reengage, revise, and refine works of art and design in response to personal
artistic vision.
Anchor Standard 3: Refine and complete artistic work.

12x18 Drawing Paper
HB Pencils
15 Ruler

Objectives

Line, Form, Space

Students will learn how to use three-point linear perspective to create the
illusion of depth on a 2D surface.

Students will learn to create cubes, cylinders, and openings in each using
three-point perspective and demonstrate these skills in designing a
cityscape.

Students will demonstrate the skills they developed to create a cityscape


using three-point perspective.

Art Production
Day 1 45minutes
Introduction: PPT
Demonstrate & Guided Practice: In Sketchbook w/ Vocab
Create a horizon line and vanishing points.
Creating Cubes: Above, below, & on the horizon line.
Creating Cylinders: Above, below, & on the horizon line.
Guided Practice: In Sketchbook
Draw your initials in 2-Point Perspective (on the horizon line) Create
a stack of 3 blocks, use these to create your initials in block letters.
Leave all perspective lines visible; darken lines that form the letters.

Day 2-7 45+45+90+45+45+45minutes
Independent Practice:
Create an architectural structure or cityscape with 3point perspective.
Pick your perspective, birds-eye view or worms-eye view.
Draw a cityscape including:
- Three Vanishing Points
- At least two architectural structures
-Bricks, stones, windows, doors, arches etc. to add interest to your
structure.
Darken your structure lines with black pen.
Add color using colored pencil

Vocabulary
3Point Perspective linear perspective in
which parallel lines along the width of an
object meet at two separate points on the
horizon and vertical lines on the object
meet at a point on the perpendicular
bisector of the horizon line.
Horizon Line The apparent intersection
of the earth and sky as seen by an
observer.
Vanishing Point The point in linear
perspective at which all imaginary lines of
perspective converge. The point at which
parallel lines receding from an observer
seem to converge. The point at which a
thing disappears or ceases to exist from
the vantage pint of the viewer.
Convergence Lines The lines that make
up the sides of an object in a perspective
drawing that relate directly back to the
vanishing point.
Parallel Lines Lines that are always

equal distance apart from each other.


They do NOT converge.

Day 4 Critique: Discuss and critique in progress cityscapes as a class.

Day 7 45minutes
Verbal Critique:
Discuss and critique finished cityscapes as a class.
Written Critique:
Answer these questions in a Google Doc, use complete sentences:
1. What part of your 2Point Perspective portfolio do you think was
most successful? Why?
2. What did you find most challenging in this portfolio? Why and
how did you overcome it
3. If you could change one thing about your final cityscape drawing
what would it be and why?
