Q.2a O&D matrix given is representing vehicles moving between different zones.
Assuming people take shortest route compute traffic moving on each of the roads shown,
taking S=last three digits of your seat number, (for example CE-07200 will take S=200).

Q.2b Identify and list down names of the Arterials, collectors and local streets for the
map given, justify your selection.
Arterial roads: A
Collector roads: B and C
Local streets: D, E, F and G

Arterial road

An Arterial road thoroughfare is a high-capacity urban road.

The primary function of an arterial road is to deliver traffic from collector roads to
freeways or expressways, and between urban centerss at the highest level of service
possible.
Arterials are laid out as the backbone of a traffic network and should be designed to afford
the highest level of service, as is practical.

Collector streets
4

A collector road or distributor road is a low-to-moderate-capacity road which serves to

move traffic from local streets to arterial roads.
Unlike arterials, collector roads are designed to provide access to residential properties.
Rarely, jurisdictions differentiate major and minor collector roads, the former being
generally wider and busier.

Local streets
A Street that is primarily used to gain access to the property bordering it
At the bottom of the hierarchy are local streets and roads.
These roads have the lowest speed limit, and carry low volumes of traffic. In some areas,
these roads may be unpaved.

Q.3 Develop O&D Matrix for YOUR OWN. Please follow the following
guidelines:
I. Identify your town using Google map
II.
Take zonings similar to Union Councils as available on KMC (CDGK) website
III. List down population for each zone
IV.
Generate O&D matrix based on some rationale using your own judgment as you
will have to OWN YOUR DATA (please refer to discussion in class).
