1. Understand the structure of Exam, Syllabus etc.
The structure of this entrance exam is designed such a
way that it will cover all your study, i mean from your
school level to your bachelor level, from all your semester,
you will get questions. So, that the reason why many
PSUs (Public service units),ISRO and many more
government organization ask for GATE Score.
Year by year, we can see there is too much increase in the
candidates who apply for GATE examination. for example,
in 2010, 1,13,531 candidates applied for GATE, where in
2011,its 1,49,948 and so on. On comparison this, there
are only few seats available in IITs and other organization.
so, its better to not give single damm chance to get fail in
gate exam, so please, understand the syllabus and other
structure of GATE Exam.
You must have account of important dates of GATE exam,
application process, books for gate preparation and etc.

2. Understand the Subjects deeply.

Once you are done with the basic understanding of the
syllabus, its now your time to understand the scope of
the subject. Take each subject one by one and note down
the good parts of this subject and bad parts of your
study in this subject. These will give you perfect picture
for your study, in which topic you have to study hard and
in which you have to just refer. I am 99% sure, there will
be only 30% of the topics that you need to study hard,
and rests are already you are fluent in it.
Now, its time for making this 30% topics in your fluent
column. Yes, go with each of small and small inner topics
of this subject and understand it. For example, if we think
of network analysis subject, then all circuits, current and
voltages, Thevenins and Nortons, and much more will
come to your mind, but is that enough? No, it isnt. You
have to study more and more points of this subject.
You are almost walked half the way. Now there will be
many questions for, how to study each and every part of
subject, because time Is very less?
3. Make proper time table for preparation.
Yes, make a plan or draw it on sample rough paper, for
how to prepare for the GATE Examination. In this field,
you have to consider your total no of subject to study,
the time left for the exam and time for revision with
practical MSQs test.
Ok, once you are done with that, all you have to do is
STUDY HARD. Yes, a good plan can lead you to crack this
GATE Exam easily. Allot time slots and days as per your
understanding skill, for example, I can give 10 days for
each subject and 2 days for practical study with revision
of subject with paper or question solving.
4. Have faith in yourself first.
Thats the most important thing you have to keep in
mind. Without self motivation and self believe, no one in

this world can achieve anything in this world. You have to
be tough to yourself, about following the time table, to
crack GATE. There will be many obstacles in your road to
GATE, but you have to make sure, you will follow the plan
in any situation.
5. If nothing works then? Plan B!
Yes, if the above plan doesnt work, dont worry, there is
always plan B! What is plan B? Well, the plan B is just
same as Plan A, read the whole article again.
Yes, there is no other plan to success, in fact, nothing will
work then these. If a proper planning not works for you,
then nothing can work for you. Just give dedication for
this and see, the result will be always in your favor.
Final words: - Keep reading about gate exam, in gate
forums or on any other good blogs that give you
knowledge about gate exam, about your subject. Keep
yourself engaged with GATE Exam till you are finished with
the GATE Exam.
Dont concentrate only on Maths, there are many other
subjects in which you can score high with low amount of
time spending for preparation.

Eligibility Criteria for GATE 2014 is "Bachelor's
degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture (4
years after 10+2/Post B.Sc./Post-Diploma) or those
who are in the final year or completed of such
programmes are eligible to appear GATE exam
2014."

with valid gate score at the time of ME admission.
You have to clear your backlogs now.

the best books for Electrical engineering will be
uploaded soon on this site,its already on my to do
list. For Subjects, i advise you to go with the
subject[s] that you are already strong. Still you
have 5 months, you can make the concepts clear
wise study for all the subjects, but do not go deep

for the subjects you think it will take time. as 5
months are not so long. in this time frame, i guess
you still need books,study material and after
study you need to spend time for revision. So, i go
the subjects in which you are good.
Do make time table for each topics and etc, that
will help you for sure! :)

If you want to give GATE after 2 year, you are sure

that you want to HIT GATE, then start with now
only. Basically, in GATE Exam, they will ask you the
summary of your last 4 year engineering Topics,
how much and how easily you relate with topic,
that's what they want to test in GATE. So, start
small practice with basic book of GATE exam, keep
clearing your topics and understand them in
depth.
To join coaching or not that's personal choice. I

Sir i have tried two times in Gate but after so much
study i have not cleared Gate exam.When i study book
at that time i remember all thinks about that subject
but after that subject if i conc on another subject i
forget the previous one even the concepts which i
learnt through that subject.I have also soled previous
years papers of Gate but there is no use i exam hole i
do so much mistakes which causes negative marking
and my result becomes poorer but in my class my
performance is good and i done all questions without
any mistake.So please help me and give me some tips
how to improve it and what is the better way to crack
this exam for admission in M.tech in IIT.

I think your problem is with Concentration. You
can
easily
Solve
Subjective
exam
[as
you
mentioned about class exam performance] but

competitive exam is all different thing. This is not
your only problem, many students have this same
problem.
Do Preparation with making notes, Write on paper

what you read and study. Writing once is equal to
10 times reading. So, This way you will start
remembering concept easily.
Your are doing preparation in right way by solving
question papers. keep moving on. if you still
phase remembering problem, try to study at
different time. Like for me night time is best,
when no one calls and no noise pollution.
Make your own notes and read that only. Forget
the thing that you don't remember anything. Just
keep one thing in mind in exam hall, that you
have done enough study, and you are capable
enough to answer them. For negative marking,
always remember, that its not important which
questions you attempt, but in competitive exam,
The question you leave matters a lot. Attempt
only questions for which you are 100% sure.

First of all, you are not eligible, as you at least

need 7th and 8th sem of mark sheet, 2nd all the
subjects are important as concern to GATE 2014.

Sir,
i knw its too late to ask this...
I'm a 2013 btech ECE passout.. i got 9 point CGPA in
btech. But im still not confident about my basics and
how i can perform well in a 3 hour complete objective
exam like gate. As gate exam is all depending on the
basics u hav in each subject. Im repeatin for gate this
year. Ive joined a coaching institute and im happy tat
im getin the basics of subjects like networks etc.
Do i hav sufficient time for preparation from now
onwards?. I have read almost all ur articles posted
here. Its too good. I bought standard texts for most
subjects.
But im just confused and lil tensed abt the time left for
studies. can i crack gate this year and get in iit or nit

first of all be fearless. Don't Worry. You have
enough time. You are scholar enough to crack this
one.You are going coaching, so you have high
chance to crack GATE and get admission in IIT.

Dear, Right now, just concentrate on your BE
Subjects only. No need to study higher semester.
In GATE, you will be asked the questions you gone
through in BE only. So just keep study the current
subjects, and keep your topics clear.

keep your goal for GATE 2014, keep prepare for
GATE 2014, if and only if you got less marks, then
try next year. :) This exam, GATE 2014 will help
you to experience GATE, so next year you will get
more experience + confidence to attend and crack
GATE Exam. but from right now you target GATE
2015, then you will land to over confidence. So,
better to target this year :)

Gowthami, There is not shortcut to reach IIT or to
crack GATE. You have to and have to study the
syllabus. No any option you have. Better late then
never, start from now, seriously, you will reach it

Okay, so finally I get to ask from someone who actually
CARES for others
My question is very very simple.
Is there any institute within Indian borders who admit
students on the basis of GATE score AND CGPA less
than 6 ?
I'd be grateful beyond measure if you can come up
with any positive reply. Otherwise, still thanks for at
least reading this. I'm not particularly after IITs or
NITs(though I have had a very bad time going through
their eligibility criteria) all I'm asking is for a decent
institute taking a dedicated student with a good GATE
score, but bad acads (less than 60%)
I understand, you may not have a solution, but that's
okay. I should rather not waste my time with GATE.

if you were good in your semester exams, that
means you have clear in all topics and you just
need revision. in that case you need to revise all
the thing and start practicing as much as

Gate exam, I cudnt study seriously for this time, but
after b tech i m willing to join ACE academy, Hyderabad
(please give me suggestion on this academy or any
other on as u knw ), so it will be better to drop 1 whole

yr & prepare for gate, If i crack it then okay.. but if i
cudnt crack then what shud i do? Family will give me 1
yr extension nt more than that & i dont want to do so..
