What is Mental Health ?


Mental Health is about how we think feel and behave.
If this changes we may become ill.
We may need to come to hospital to get help to recover, get better.

Staff who will help you

Staff that work here use Sign Language or


are learning Sign Language. Staff
understand the needs of Deaf people.

You will meet staff who support you when staying at JDU

They will help you get better so you can go home.

What happens when I arrive ?

Reception Area
You meet Nurse who will show you your bedroom, bedroom is for
you only, bags will be checked with you. Nurse write down list

Meet another patient, show you around, meet others !

Nurse, Doctor will see you in private

Will talk to you about how you are feeling


to hospital and how we can help you get better.

- Doctor check physical health make sure ok
- Have female Doctor for female patients
- Doctor check your tablets taking now
- Sometimes give you new ones

The Hospital and Grounds are No Smoking!

Staff can help you to stop smoking !

There will be a smoking area outside

This is the Ward


The JDU has separate ward for women and separate ward for men.

Have own bedroom, can bring things that make you feel

at home
There is a television in lounge and dining area.

Care and Treatment

When you are here you will have:

- A Doctor

- A Named Nurse

and other staff who will talk to you about your treatment.
You will have your own care plan.
Staff will help you understand your care plan which may include activities

including art, cooking, exercises and many more.


Nurse will arrange a meeting to talk about your

- who will be in your meeting


- you can invite family members
- an Advocate or friend to support you

not allowed in bedroom areas, we have a visitors

and friends.

Children are not allowed on the ward, we can arrange for you to meet with
children from your family in a room that is not on the ward.
Children who visit must have an adult with them.
All visitors must sign in and out at Reception for fire safety.

Internet Access
Staff will support you to access the internet so you can
stay in touch with family and friends.

SECURITY - Keeping you Safe


The JDU has locked doors for your safety and security.

Emergency alarms

in every room on

unit.

If you need help, you can press and staff will come straight away.
Your bedroom door will lock and you will have a key.
Staff will flash your doorbell if they need to come in.
If fire the alarms will flash and you MUST leave building. Staff will help
you.

Quiet room can be for spiritual / religious use, please

ask staff and this can be


arranged for you.

Staff can also arrange for you go to religious ceremony / establishment. If


you need anything for your devotional practices please ask staff.

CULTURAL PREFERENCES

If you have special needs e.g. Dietary or Dress Code that is important to you
and your family, please inform staff.
Staff will have some knowledge of these special needs, they will discuss
with you and do their best to make sure that your preferences are
respected.

Any comments, ideas or complaints please ask nurse to help or


speak to PALS Co-ordinator. Your views help us to improve
service, we will be happy to hear from you.

COMMENTS
First Patient Comment
Nurse Staffs help patient a lot about calm and relax and sort out problem. Dont
tell patients about problem is confidence but only staffs, but staffs trust patients
about problem. BSL
Second Patient Comment
JDU come like staffs have help yes group learns good (Art Group) O.T. staffs.
In time manages learns improve, communication all staffs use Sign Language,
thats help me

It seems to me this JDU is good for giving all the support that those patients
needs
