OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS CRIMP PRESS STRIPMATIC 944

The following safety advises have to observed all time:

1. Apart from the indications in these operation instructions, observe the general safety and accident prevention regulations of your country!!
2. Before beginning operation, familiarize yourself with all installations and operation elements
and their functions!
3. Inspect the protection devices once per shift for visible damage or defects. Eliminate damages immediately
Do not continue operation!
4. Safety devices may never be disassembled or put out of service.

You are in danger of the most severe injuries if you remove or make ineffective the
safety installations!
After disassembly of safety installations for reasons of necessary preparation, repair
or maintenance jobs, they must be reassembled correctly and immediately after
conclusion of the jobs!
In case of preparation, repair or maintenance jobs, always pull the main electricity
connection!
Access to the main electrical connection of the machine must always be kept free!

1.3

Take care of environmental regulations

During all work with or at the crimp press all laws for waste avoiding and correct recycling and
removal of the waste have to be fulfilled.
Especially during setting to operation, maintenance or repair jobs water endangering materials
like

lubricative grease and oil

solvent containing cleaning liquids

may not reach the ground or the sewerage!

This materials must be stored and removed in suitable containers!

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS CRIMP PRESS STRIPMATIC 944

5.6.1

Set wire section

Symbol:
To avoid cutting into the strands the stripping knives should cut about 2/3 into the insulation.
The stripping unit has a retrieval for the stripping knives, which means the knives cut to the adjusted dimension and then open 0,1 mm.
With the scale knob (Figure 2 - 3) the cutting depth of the stripping knives is adjusted.
Turn knob to the right to decrease the cutting depth (=bigger wire section).
Turn knob to the left to increase the cutting depth (=smaler wire section).

5.6.2

Set stripping length

Symbol:
With the scale knob (Figure 2 - 1) the stripping length is adjusted. You can set the desired stripping length directly.
Turn knob to the right: wire will be stripped longer.
Turn knob to the left: wire will be stripped shorter.

5.6.3

Set positioning depth

Symbol:
With this adjustment the position of the wire in reference to the terminal is adjusted, which means the end of the stripping to the beginning of the conductor crimp.
The position is set with the scale knob (Figure 2 - 2).
Turn knob to the right. The wire end will be moved away from the connection area and the insulation end will be moved away from the conductor crimp.
Turn knob to the left. The wire end will be moved towards he connection area and the insulation
end will be moved towards the conductor crimp.

5.6.4

Set holding force

With the air pressure reducer on the right side of the Crimppress, you can adjust the holding force of the wire clamps.
Set the air pressure reducer to the desired presure.

5.6.5

Set position of the clamps

Figure 4
The clamps for the wire can be set in height by the adjustment ledge (Figure 3 - 2). This is necessary to ensure for different wire sizes that the wire is always positioned in the middle of the stripping
knives. The bigger the wire is, the deeper the clamp has to be set.
To change the height proceed as follows:
1. Loose countersunk screw (Figure 4 - 1).
2. Put wire which has to be used between the clamps and push clamps together with hand.
3. Align both clamps, that the wire is positioned centered to the stripping blades.
4. Tighten countersunk screw.

Cleaning and maintenance

6.1

General indications of safety for maintenance

The servicing schedule of the operating manual has to be followed!
Take care of maintenance and repair instructions for the single components, which are part of
this operating manual!
Before starting with maintenance or repair jobs, the access to the working area of the crimping
and stripping machine has to be closed for unauthorized personnel! Signs have to be placed,
which show that the maintenance or repair job is in progress!

Lubricants and cleaning material which bear environmental danger have to be removed properly!

6.2

Working on the electric equipment

Repair jobs on the electric equipment of the crimping and stripping machine have to be performed only by qualified personnel!
The electrical equipment has to be checked regularly!
Loose connections have to be fixed!
Damaged wire/cable has to be replaced immediately!
Switch box has to be kept close all time! Access may only be permitted to authorized personnel
with key/tools!
Switch box and other housings for electrical equipment may never be cleaned by means of water jet!

6.3

Take care of environmental regulations

During all work at and with the crimping and stripping machine the regulations of law for waste
reduction and waste management have to be followed.
Especially during setting into operation, maintenance and repair jobs no water endagering materials like

lubricative grease and oil

solvent containing cleaning liquids

may burden the soil or reach the canalization!

These materials have to be stored in appropriate containers and have to be removed properly!
Regular cleaning and maintenance preserve the working order of the machine.
Before performing maintenance work:
Switch off the press and disconnect the power plug, in order to avoid injuries
caused by accidental activation of the press!
Safety devices that were removed during maintenance must be installed again
immediately after finishing these jobs.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS CRIMP PRESS STRIPMATIC 944

6.4

General indications
Perform maintenance tasks regularly.
Recommended lubricant:
Lubricants according to DIN 51 502 KP2K-20 (e.g. Mobil Greasrex 47) for greasing all lubrication
points.

6.5

Maintenance jobs

6.5.1

Daily
Remove cutting and insulation pieces from ram guidance and guidances of the stripping unit with a

brush.

Do not use compressed air! The stamping and insulation rests may enter into the stripping
unit, where they could cause malfunctions.

6.5.2

Monthly
Check the press ram guide and readjust, if necessary (cf. point. 7.4)

6.5.3

Quaterly
Grease the lubrication points (Figure 5). 3 strokes with the grease gun. The greasing nipples are lo-

cated under the protection cover.

Hanke Crimp-Technik accepts no liability for damages and disruptions caused by dry operation of the press ram and the eccentric.

Adjustment of clamps

Figure 10
The shorter the distance between the applicator punches and the clamps is, the easier is the handling.
Therefore the clamps are adjustable. To adjust the clamps, perform the following steps.
1. Loosen both countersunk screws (Figure 10-3 and 10-4).
2. Move upper (Figure 10-2) and lower clamp (Figure 10-1) together. Make sure that the upper
clamp is positioned parallel to the lower clamp.
3. Adjust clamps as close as possible to the applicator punches.
4. Tighten countersunk screws.

Special equipment

9.1

Precision adjustment

Figure 11
Some presses are equipped with a precision adjustment. This permits the adjustment of the
crimping height in the range of 0.1 mm in increments of 1/100.
The precision adjustment of the crimping height can be adjusted in the following manner:
1. Switch off the press and disconnect the power plug.
2. Open the protection cover.
3. Bring the press head down by means of jogging mode or turning the handwheel1.
4. Adjust the crimping height.
5. Close the protection cover.

9.2

Crimp force monitor

Some presses are equipped with a crimping force monitor. Please observe the corresponding
instructions in the enclosed operation instructions for the crimping force monitor.

9.3

DCCS - Defective Crimp Cutting System

The DCCS system is only supplied together with the crimp force monitor. In case of an error
message by the crimp force monitor, the DCCS cuts off the defectively crimped contact. The
DCCS can be adjusted in the following manner:
1. Switch off the press and disconnect the power plug!
2. Remove the back protection cover.
3. Push the cutting unit by hand into the front final position.
4. Adjust the desired cutoff position by means of the adjusting screw.
5. Place the cutting unit in its original position.
6. Install the protection cover.
