About DoMS
The roots of management studies at IIT Madras has been in place since early 70's,
offered as M.Tech, MS and PhD programme.
The Department of Management Studies (DoMS) was founded in the year 2004 in
order to nurture and develop the budding MBA programme which started in August
2001. It has been more than 15 yrs and the program has seen a lot of growth.
DoMS offers exchange programmes which are facilitated by MoUs with various
Universities around the World.
Every Semester, DoMS has about 40 foreign students on campus, and at least
30 students go abroad in exchange programmes.
DoMS has an average strength of 75 students per batch. The batch is a perfect
blend of freshers and professionals with work-experience in varied backgrounds.
DoMS have been positioned consistently in the top slots in the rankings by various
independent ranking agencies:
- Ranked 6th in the top b-schools ranking 2015, by careers360.com
- Ranked 49th in the QS Asian university rankings of 2013
- Ranked 4th by India Today in 2012
- Ranked 5th by Outlook India in 2012
- Ranked 2nd by Dataquest in 2011

Faculty
The experienced and internationally renowned faculty with one of the best
students to faculty ratio are things that make DoMS stand out. The faculty at
DoMS offer their expert services in general and specialized areas, applicable to a
wide variety of large, medium or small scaled businesses and organizations.
Faculties also spend a couple of months abroad/in industry for sabbatical, as
visiting professors/scholars, every year.

About Samanvay
Samanvay, as the name suggests, is the confluence of thoughts and ideas,
coordination of knowledge and skill and synthesis of prowess and brilliance. This
event is synonymous with passion, frenzy, enthusiasm and lots of fun. It is a fourday event away from the otherwise hectic schedule of assignments,
presentations and quizzes.
The four-day management phenomenon is DoMS IIT-Madras's annual b-school
festival. It showcases a 'close encounter' among the most astute and
accomplished business brains of the country when they pit their wit against each
other in events that challenge their diverse managerial capabilities in the field of
marketing, finance, analytics and operations.
Samanvay offers a chance for the students to interact with notable personalities
from the industry through its lecture series and panel discussion. Last year
Samanvay hosted speakers from fields such as public administration, sports
analytics and movie industry. Also, a panel discussion by eminent corporates on
risk management trends and perspectives was conducted to shed light on
perspectives of risk management in various businesses.

1. Optio - Optio is designed to test the acumen of the participants in the field of
operations management. It also gives them the privilege to apply their
theoretical knowledge into practice.
2. Buzzar - This is a new format of the marketing event. It challenges the
participants to put their theoretical knowledge of marketing into practical
application, by building promotional strategies, developing campaign ideas and
sales pitches.
3. HrIITh - HrIITh is an event pertaining to the HR domain. It evaluates the
contestants' experience, skills, innovation and their ability to apply certain HR
concepts to solve the issues faced in people management.
4. Udyami - This is the newly launched entrepreneurship event and is in line with
DoMS's entrepreneurial heritage. Its primary objective is to imbibe the spirit of
entrepreneurship in student community from various b-schools across India in
order to inspire and encourage them to take on challenges through business
ventures.
5. Finnix - This event will give the competitors a chance to test their financial
knowledge to evaluate a private company. It will test the participants' ability to
utilize information about the company, competitors, news and other
developments to come up with a price tag. It's one of the few financial events
which offer the participants to value an actual upcoming company.
6. Kruunch - The event would involve an online data analytics/consultancy
competition that requires participant teams to provide a robust statisticsbased/analytical solution for a real world business problem.

world, Samanvay celebrates the spirit of youth with Marathon - A run for a
cause, Panel Discussion, Lecture Series, Corporate Outbound Activity and onthe-spot fun activities like AdZap. A plethora of events set to the scenic
backdrop of IIT madras form an ideal setting for the amalgamation of creativity,
skill, enthusiasm and euphoria.
