ABSTRACT
Air leak testing machine plays a vital role in detecting the leaks in the rims. The rim
is clamped between the two cavities, of which one is stationary through which air supplied
and the other cavity is movable which is positioned by the pneumatic clamp cylinder. Leak
is detected by measuring the amount of air flow from one cavity to other cavity through the
rim.
Booster plays a major role for supplying the pressurized air at the desired pressure
to the clamping cylinder. It boosts up the pressure of the air being supplied from the reservoir
and supplies to the clamp cylinder. In most of the cases there is a greater chance of booster
failure because of the repeated usage, high volume of air consumption by the clamp cylinder
and more pressure requirement, due to which the breakdown of the air leak testing machine
increases.
There is a growing emergency for reducing the breakdown in air leak testing machine
to

avoid much downtime, by eliminating the frequent booster failure or improving the

booster capacity/life or providing a new method/system for clamping the

rim. So it is

necessary to design a circuit for air leak detecting machine.

This

project

is

about

finding

and

implementing

new

method

for

the

elimination of much downtime and spare cost in rim-air leak testing machine in such a way
that the sufficient clamping of rim is ensured. A systematic approach has been followed
for finding the new method for solving the above problem.
Hydraulic system has been founded as a new system for eliminating much
breakdown in air leak testing machine. Also this system is implemented in air leak testing
machine and a comparative study is made between the earlier pneumatic and newer hydraulic
system based on the cost.
