Education
Bachelor of Science, Electrical Engineering Expected May 2011
University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA GPA: 3.96, Major GPA: 4.00
• W.V.T. Rusch Engineering Honors Program
• Boeing Engineering Scholarship, USC Presidential Scholarship, USC Engineering Merit Scholarship
• Dean’s List 5 of 5 Semesters
Professional Experience
Co-op January 2010 - Present
NASA - Johnson Space Center Houston, TX
• Designed the energy management controller for the Centaur 2 electric vehicle using Altium Designer. Implemented
power distribution, voltage conversion, and analog current and voltage monitoring circuits.
• Worked to improve the electrical systems in the Robonaut 2 humanoid robot by modifying, laying out, and testing
circuit boards to perform voltage conversion and communication splitting. Thoroughly tested each finished design using
digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power supplies.
• Coordinated with Johnson Space Center’s Avionics division to design a new sensor connector board that reduced
electromagnetic interference in Robonaut 2’s arm motors.
Research Assistant August 2008 - Present
USC Interaction Lab and Texas A&M Robotics Lab Los Angeles, CA
• Developed a multi-robot deployment scheme under Phase II of DARPAs LANdroid project. Analyzed wireless sig-
nals and fading channel models in MATLAB, debugged faulty wireless cards, and wrote control code in C using the
PlayerStage robotics control software.
• The method correctly deployed robots in 90.2% of small-scale trials - a 30% improvement over the previous method.
• Repaired a decommissioned Pioneer robot previously used for parts. Resoldered damaged leads and connections on the
battery and control boards, replaced several sonar sensors, and assembled it into a working robot.
Engineering Consultant Intern December 2008 - January 2009
Western Community Energy Bend, OR
• Analyzed the impact and feasibility of wind energy in rural areas. Drafted renewable energy ordinances for the state
of Idaho which were used in the creation of the states first public wind farm.
• Learned key components of professional writing.
Leadership Experience
President & Co-Founder April 2009 - Present
NASA Electric Vehicle and Robotics Team Houston, TX
• Founded a new NASA organization to continue development on the previously stalled initiative to build the Rocky
II military robot. Worked with the Human Resources, Robotics, and Legal departments at Johnson Space Center to
obtain official recognition and funding for the team.
• Set up a team infrastructure to ensure the long-term viability of the team. Created an official website, project man-
agement system, constitution, and member application process.
• Designed the power management board for a future robotic rover.
Team Captain & Software Lead November 2008 - Present
USC Competition Robotics Society Los Angeles, CA
• Organized and directed thirty-four members in the development of an autonomous underwater vehicle. Introduced a
three-part, month-long training session to teach new members basic programming and engineering principles.
• Developed the mission planning module for the team’s autonomous submarine. Wrote a 3D Simulator in C++ using
the Ogre engine. Used Altium to lay out a dual-processor motherboard to control the team’s next generation vehicle.
• Placed 6th out of 31 teams in the 2009 AUVSI International Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Competition.
