2016 ACCJ Volunteer of the Year (VOY) Award
Description:
The ACCJ Volunteer of the Year is awarded to non-elected ACCJ volunteers
in recognition of demonstrated exceptional service to the ACCJ and its
membership above and beyond the typical expectations of membership.
Eligibility:

Current ACCJ members who have provided exceptional volunteer

services to the ACCJ or a significant portion of the ACCJ members at
a time when not serving in appointed Committee, Subcommittee and
Task Force Leadership are eligible for this award.

Previous winners of the award are ineligible for the award based on
the same or similar service for three years after receiving the award,
but are eligible to be recognized for other, different service to the
ACCJ at a different time irrespective of how much time has passed
since the earlier award.

Duly appointed leaderssuch as chairs and vice chairs of

committees, subcommittees and task forcesare only eligible for this
award in recognition of an exemplary volunteer contribution
completely separate from their appointed leadership role.

Elected leaders, such as members of the Board of Governors, are not

eligible for this award.

Nomination & Selection Process:

1.

Committee Leaders are asked to be on the watch for any exceptional

volunteer contributions throughout the year and identify the
volunteer member and the contribution to the Executive Director or
the Director of Administration & Operations. The Director of
Administration & Operations will keep a record of all such nominees.

2.

At the September Leadership Forum meeting, Committee Leaders

will be reminded to identify nominees and their exceptional
contributions and inform the Director of Administration & Operations
or the Executive Director by Friday, 7 October, 2016. The Director of
Administration & Operations will maintain a list of nominees and
their specific contributions.

- Guidelines
3.

Prior to the October Board meeting, Board members will be given a

final reminder to make nominations. ACCJ staff will provide
quantitative backup for nominees on relevant information, including
metrics on deliverables produced by the relevant volunteer service.

4.

In the event it appears there will be a large number of nominees,

the Board at its October meeting (or if the need arises after the
Boards October meeting) may appoint a subcommittee of Board
members to review the slate and prepare recommendations for the
November Board meeting.

5.

A confidential slate of nominees will be sent to the Board as part of

the November Board meeting materials. At the November Board
meeting, a confidential written ballot will be conducted.

6.

Based on the number and quality of nominees, the Board has

discretion to decide the number of awards given, bearing in mind
that the award becomes diluted and loses its value if given to too
many people in any given year.

Award Presentation:
1.

A formal letter from the ACCJ President will be sent to the winners
after the November Board meeting.

2.

VOY winners will be invited to attend the December Leadership

Forum meeting, at which they will be presented with a Certificate of
Appreciation drafted and reviewed in accordance with the Board
Guidelines.

3.

Each winner (and one guest) will be invited as special guests to the
Person of the Year event, at no cost to themselves. Depending on
availability, winners may also be invited to a special breakfast or
lunch with the previous years president.
