Introduction
When you are in public, you do not have a reasonable expectation of
privacy. We kindly ask women to respect our right to admire your bodies
and stop complaining (Valenti, 2013a, p.6). So said the introduction to a
forum on social news website Reddit devoted to an alarming
photographic trend called creepshots. A creepshot can be defined as

Conclusion
Though there have been numerous backlashes against creepshots and
many successful shutdowns of forums and websites hosting creepshot
photographs, this phenomenon has not been completely eradicated. Each
time a forum is closed another pops up in its place. On Reddit, which
originally host a forum specifically called creepshots, a replacement forum
emerged under the title Candid Fashion Police, claiming to be a place for
people post candid photos of women and then we judge their fashion choices similar to
TLC's what not to wear and E!'s FashionPolice (Reddit.com, 2013). In reality,
this was just another forum to post creepshots, and as such has since been
taken down.
There is more to the creepshot phenomenon than just appreciating
womens beauty. Though the entire phenomenon is maintained under the
guise of fetishistic scopophilia, wherein the beauty of the object is built up
and is fetishized, creepshots are actually a faade for the larger purpose of
sadistic, voyeuristic scopophilia. The latter works well to neutralize the
threat to men posed by female castration and free sexuality, and by
capturing and judging the female subjects of these photographs, the male
spectators assert control and ownership over them. They are empowered
by subjecting their female objects to unwanted and unconsented sexual
