Abstract
An experiment was conducted to verify if the presence of sunlight could truly
affect the growth of Monggo seeds. The groups assumption was that if a
Monggo seed set-up was exposed to sunlight adequately, then it will grow
healthier than a Monggo seed set-up without exposure to sunlight. What the
group did was make two set-ups: Set-up A (with exposure to sunlight) and
Set-up B (without exposure to sunlight). The results show that Set-up A (with
exposure to sunlight) grew much better than Set-up B (without exposure to
sunlight). The results show that our hypothesis was indeed true.
INTRODUCTION
One of the most widely-grown plants in the Philippines, and also the
commonly used plant for experiments is
Vigna radiata
, popularly known worldwide as mung bean, or simply monggo in Filipino. It is
a plant that has been domesticated in Mongolia, reason for why it is also
called monggo. They are small in size, ovoid in shape, and green in color. It
is used as a foodstuff in both savory and sweet dishes.
An experiment was conducted to verify if the presence of sunlight could truly
affect the growth of monggo seeds. Based on general knowledge, the
presence of sunlight is essential for the growth of plants. The researchers
wanted to verify if this was true through the use of monggo seeds.
INTRODUCTION
The objectives of this study are 1) to verify if the presence of sunlight truly
affects the growth of monggo seeds, 2) to verify if darkness has an effect on
the growth of monggo seeds. 3) to help plant growers on the factors that will
help the growth of plants, such as sunlight, and 4) to spread information to
people that although it is part of common sense to expose plants to sunlight,
it is also a great consideration to be given importance to.

The past studies show that in order for the monggo seeds to grow, they will
need to be provided with adequate exposure to sunlight, sufficient amount of
water, plenty of nutrients from the soil, and air. In this study, one of the
factors that affect the growth of monggo seeds is sunlight. Sunlight,
however, is not really necessary or responsible for the germination of seeds,
but generally, it is essential to plant growth. Germination, on the other hand,
requires moisture and temperature. Although plants can be grown under
artificial lights, for centuries, it is found that they survive and grow best
when exposed to natural light or sunlight.
METHODOLOGY
The materials which the researchers used were:
2 regular sized plastic cups
2 cups of loam soil
50 healthy monggo seeds
Tap water
Ruler
Measuring cup
Large Shoebox
Ice cream container
Masking tape
Pentel pen
Cell phone camera
METHODOLOGY
The steps that the researchers followed were:
1. Gather all the materials.
2. Soak monggo seeds in water and remove the floating ones, then drain out
water.
3. Label one plastic cup with Set-up A (with sunlight) and the other plastic
cup with Set-up B (without sunlight).
4. Cut 4 holes in the bottom of both plastic cups.
5. Put 1 cup of loam soil in both set-ups.
6. Randomly plant 25 healthy monggo seeds in each set-up and drizzle

cup of tap water to it.

7. Place Set-up A outside where it can be exposed to the sunlight.
8. Place Set-up B inside the large shoebox indoors.
9. Only water both set-ups with cup of tap water once every other day.
10. Take pictures of both set-ups everyday for the documentation.
11. Keep track with the plant growth with written observations.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
It was shown that monggo seeds grown under sunlight germinated and grew
better than those grown under darkness. Evidence suggests that light really
affects the growth of monggo seeds in terms of quantity and quality of the
seeds that germinated. The same number of seeds was grown on set-up A
and set-up B. Of the 25 seeds, 7 seedlings grew in set-up A, while, there
were only 3 in set-up B. Leaves are green in set-up A, because the pigment
in them called chlorophyll absorbs all light colors and reflects green light. The
seedlings in set-up A were shorter but sturdier with developed leaves
compared to the taller but thinner stems of set-up B. The seedlings of set-up
B were taller because they were seeking sunlight.
The presence of sunlight enables the plant to produce food via
photosynthesis, which is essential to plant growth.
CONCLUSION
Sunlight is very important to a plants growth. A plant cannot survive,
reproduce, or produce food without sunlight. All plants will eventually die off
if there was no light for them to use. The temperature from sunlight makes
the seeds germinate and grow better.
Results show that the researchers hypothesis is significant because the
monggo seeds grew into a fully developed plant with healthy green leaves.

Not only do plants need sunlight, all living organisms do.

If the seed is dry it will remain dry in absence of sunlight. If the seed is presoaked in water then it will
germinate and will produce the root and shoot. In absence of light the shoot will elongate and grow much
longer in search of light. It will remain white or pale green. If it is grown in sunlight then it will turn green
and healthy and will become a healthy plant, otherwise in absence of light it will die.

it will not grow and it will get stick.Edited

answer:The seeds will germinate in the absence
of sunlight but there will be etiolation afterwards. It
uses the energy of the starch and sugar that is
stored in the seed to create the first bits of growth
that get it to the sunlight. It is that starch and
sugar that is the reason we use seeds such as
wheat, oat, barley, beans, etc., as energy sources
for ourselves.
Seed can germinate with very less sunlight and by
absorbing nutrients from the soil. However,
sunlight is very important if a seed has to grow
into a plant.
