Section Four: Lesson analysis
1. What went well?
This lesson was much better than my first reading lesson. During the
lesson, I tried to speed up the pace because the content is slightly below
some of my students. They all absolutely enjoy Going on a word
hunt Next, they each received a word they had to read. This is one
area I noticed that some students need improvement. Many of them are
able to say the sounds; however, still struggle with blending the words.
Unfortunately, a large factor affecting them is their language and there is
very little interventions in place to assist this issue.
2. What was learned about planning?

I learned from my previous mistakes and planned out the entire lesson.
Having a list of words, sounds and story questions truly assisted my lesson. I
think the planning prior to the lesson made everything run smoother than
yesterday.
3. What was learned about teaching?
I think the prior planning also assisted my teaching. I felt more confident
and comfortable teaching this content because I had thought out everything.
When I felt lost, I was able to quickly grab my plans and refocus.
4. What did my students learned? How do I know they learned?
I think many students felt more confident about their ability to read. Even
though it took them longer than other students, I could see the excitement when
they realized they read a word. The read aloud was another great aspect of the
lesson. I think it is a quality story for any age. At times, I found myself enjoying
the story more than some of the students. I tried to embellish the story by adding
inflection to my voice. I notice many of them understood and enjoy the story
through their responses during and after the read-aloud. I really enjoyed hearing
their predictions about this particular story.
5. What improvements will I make in an effort to be more effective with this
particular class of students?
There arent many improvements I would make for this lesson. I think I
can always improve my reading fluency for read alouds. It will help them
comprehend more and understand how to actually read. To do so, I plan to
practice reading the stories more prior to the lesson. I think I could also improve
my pronunciation of sounds. This is the first year I have had to know sounds and
blends since I was young. I find it even more important for me to pronounce
every thing clearly and correctly because many of them are still learning.
Children mimic adults; therefore, I want to ensure I am a good example for all of
them.
