ELECTIONS

SHEET

1.

Elections will be held on September 26, 2016.

2.

Parliament has 15 seats and usually has a term of four (4) years. Current term had to end in 2018. However, due to
constant shifting of the majority in Parliament and changes to ministers, snap elections were called.

3.

14 current Members of Parliament are seeking re-election. One is retiring from politics (MP Johan "Janchi" Leonard - UP).

4.

Nine parties are registered as contesting the elections.

5.

126 candidates are expected on ballot.

6.

Total number of voters is 22,302. Only people with Dutch nationality can vote and they must be registered in the Civil
Registry.

7.

Women form the majority of voters.

8.

After election, a bloc of eight of more MPs are needed to form a government. The Council of Ministers is appointed by
the Governor on recommendation of the bloc of majority Mps.

9.

The Council of Ministers comprises seven (7) persons with an eighth serving as minister plenipotentiary in The Hague.

10.

Voting will take place at 20 polling stations.
