Course Description
The aim of the course is to equip you with mathematical knowledge and skills that will help you in
everyday life, in work, and in further studies. Math Analysis & Investigation involves the
measurement, properties, and relationship among numbers, variables, expressions, points, lines, and
other concepts. We will challenge ourselves to have a deeper understanding of all aspects of
mathematics.
Homework, Quizzes, Tests, and Projects
In order to retain the necessary skills to perform well on high-stakes exams and be prepared for
college, students must practice those skills on a regular basis. Homework will be assigned three to
four times per week.
All homework assignments are due at the beginning of class. No late homework will be
accepted. For First Period classes, no homework will be accepted after 8:10am.
Students will have a quiz on Friday of the majority of weeks; short school weeks may alter this
schedule. Tests will be given at the end of each quarter. Projects/Papers may happen throughout the
year these will contribute to both the students mastery AND effort grade the percentile of each will
be clearly explained in the rubric for the assignment.
ALL student work that is to be grade MUST be completed in pencil. Work completed in pen will not
be accepted.
Students needing extra help
If at any point a student is in need of extra help they should seek out the MATH CENTER (Open
Mon-Thurs. in Room 304) immediately! It is crucial that students have a full understanding of the
current topic as this course covers many different aspects of high school mathematics. I will
personally be in the math center (Room 304) on Wednesday afternoons from 3:00pm 4:30pm. I will
also be at or around my desk most days after school but I encourage students to make an
appointment with me to make sure that I am available that day.
Grading Policy
Students should refer to the rubric below for factors on grading and weights of assignments
throughout the academic school year.

responsibility of making up missed work. There are procedures that students will have the
opportunity to learn and take accountability for. As the teacher, I take responsibility for following
the policies for absences and tardiness below:
Students must utilize the Absent Folders to obtain missed work when they have missed class
due to an absence or early dismissal, there will be one folder for each day of the week hung in
the classroom.
ALL homework is required to be turned in at the start of the next attended class period
Missed quizzes/tests: If a student misses a test or quiz they MUST make an appointment to
make the assignment with in the number of days they missed. If they do not keep that
appointment they will receive a ZERO.
o
Example: The student missed 3 days of school. He/she must come to me within 3
days to make an appointment agreed upon by both student and teacher.
All doors will be closed and locked at the beginning of each class period. If you arrive
to class late without a pass that is dated and signed by a member of the Freire staff,
you will receive a write-up. Verbal excuses are not accepted.
