Boerne Middle School South

6th Grade Reading

Welcome to 6th Grade! If you have any questions this year, please contact Mrs. Sursa at
terri.sursa@boerne-isd.net
Course Description
The program incorporates significant literary works and emphasizes not only the
integration of thinking, listening, speaking, and reading skills, but also a multidisciplinary
integration of the total sixth grade curriculum. Students read literature from many
genres and culturally diverse works which correlate with Social Studies and Science
topics. Reading instruction includes novel studies, anthologies, and expository texts.
Student assessment will include written assignments, research-based projects,
comprehension questions, open-ended projects, and quarterly benchmarks.
Pre-AP is designed to prepare students for the academic rigor and college level
environment of upper level PREAP/AP Reading courses and for AP testing offered in
grades 11 and 12. Students should be self-motivated and have the time and ability to
complete out-of-class assignments.
