Applied Water Technology in Oil & Gas Production

Why Choose this Course?

Conventional and unconventional fossil fuel production by its nature, involves the
production of waste water. Whether this is flooding water to increases the well pressure
and enhance oil recovery of the oil in place, or formation water, it is necessary to deal
with it appropriately. The water injected for flooding operations is required to be of a
certain quality, however the importance of proper water treatment is often
underestimated. There is a tremendous variation in the water sources used i.e.
seawater, borehole and river water, however poor water quality, may lead to clogging of
the reservoir and loss of oil production particularly during well stimulation and water
injection.
For every barrel of crude produced 7-10 barrels of water are also produced, reusing it
therefore is vital for reducing the quantity of water produced during the lifetime of the
reservoir. The chemistry of produced water, related to problems such as scaling,
corrosion, bacteria, and oily water, will be examined both theoretically and practically.
Produced water contains oil and its treatment to an environmentally acceptable level is
mandatory before disposal. Good oil and water separation is therefore necessary and
the physics as well as the mechanics of proper oil and water separation need to be well
understood, not only for water injection/ reuse but also to reduce its quantity for disposal
and for meeting the strict environmental discharge regulations.

What are the Goals?

In this seminar you will:

Learn the details of the impact of effective oilfield water chemistry

Understand the importance of proper water treatment
Appreciate the importance of reusing produced/ formation water
Comprehend how to assess the oilfield production liquid separation principles
Understanding and resolve operational problems in process equipment
Develop skills necessary to evaluate the technologies used in oil and water
separation

Who is this Course for?

Plant and field engineers,
Chemists, new engineers needing to understand produced water related
problems in the production of oil and gas
Engineering and technical managers and supervisors
Maintenance coordinators
Operations and manufacturing managers and supervisors

Foremen and team leaders

Those interested in obtaining a general understanding of the industry

How will this be Presented?

A range of interactive training methods will be used including practical exercises, case
studies, question and answer sessions and group discussions to cover current practices
in the field. Presentations will underpin topics that highlight key issues on oil water
separation technologies. A number of short films and animated exercises will be
presented during the program to enhance the participants knowledge of the subject.
The training manual will support the learning experiences and provide additional
reference materials and examples.
