Robert James Sabuda is a leading children's pop-up book artist
and paper engineer. His recent books, such as those describing
the stories of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and Alice in
Wonderland, have been well received and critically acclaimed.

His specific interest in 3-D paper engineering (i.e., pop-up


books) was sparked by a book he received that was illustrated
by Vojtch Kubata. His interest in children's book illustration
began with an internship at Dial Books for Young Readers while
attending the Pratt Institute. Initially working as a package
designer, he illustrated his first children's book series, of
"Bulky Board Books", in 1987. Wide recognition only came his
way after he started designing pop-up books for children in

Robert Sabudas work is simply fascinating and magical. It is definitely unique and
special compared to any other children storybook. One of his most famous work- The
Wizard of Oz which is the one I like best, had the most interesting pop up content in it. In
my opinion, Robert Sabudas work is simply couldnt be underestimated, it need a lot of
hard work, time and specific planning to create such a fine work. The images and pop ups
of the book isnt the only thing that makes his book special, the accompaniment by the
interesting fantasy stories was also quite a key reason. The story wasnt so special by its
own if they werent any pop ups from the book. The pop ups that he used was really
detailed and specific, it gives us a feeling as if it was very realistic and the story is
happening just right before our eyes from the help of the pop ups. Robert Sabudas work
fascinated me once I took a look in it, It make me feel that nothing is impossible, it gives
me a thought that I can also try like him and make my own very pop up card/book. The
