Objective:
While utilizing ELA (English Language Arts) standards, students will analyze and
define figurative language found in a particular song. In addition, student will
choose a song that is meaningful to her/him and write an essay explaining why it is
so meaningful.


Assignment

1. Find a song (or poem) that best illustrates your personal anthem
a. Song MUST contain lyrics since this lesson is about figurative language
b. Song must not contain any foul language (swear / curse words,
derogatory comments)
2. Type all lyrics within song
a. Using a highlighter (marker), highlight any figurative language within
the lyrics
3. Written report
a. Write a report detailing why this song is so meaningful to you.
b. 4th graders: must write at least two (2) paragraphs
c. 5th graders: must write at least three (3) paragraphs
d. Must include title
e. Must include introduction and conclusion statements
f. You may print, type, or cursive your report
