Story

grew up as a fairly typical Western Australia country

girl. She was a boarding student at Santa Maria College, A adale. As a

member of the Australian Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, Irene
was commi ed to her vocation of educating young people. Born on 21st
August, 1938 at Kununoppin near Trayning, Western Australia, Irene
taught in s ools in Victoria and Western Australia before volunteering to

work with the Josephites mission in Peru.

A er arriving in Peru in 1987, she was appointed to Huasahuasi in 1989
and took up the

allenge of ministering to the impoverished. For political

reasons communist rebels did not welcome missionaries and this was well
known. In spite, recognising the danger to their lives, Irene and the other
Sisters decided to remain in Peru and continue their work. On 21st May,
1991 her fears were realised when, along with ve other people, she was

executed. Irene McCorma s crime in the eyes of her murderers: caring

for and working among the impoverished of the area.

Novella is a kind and gentle young lady who carries a constant smile and a delightful a itude towards others.
She is a very focused student who continually a ieves her goals as a responsible and reliable young lady. She is
a fantastic role model for other students and I am certain she will continue to impress everyone with her positive
outlook. It would be helpful if Novella could proactively volunteer to assist with some of the responsibilities in
our Care Group a li le more. She is a genuinely thoughtful and considerate student who should continue to
impress as she progresses through her Senior S ool journey at the College.
