Assagao Goa
An Introduction
Our house is in the village of Assagao, one of the most sought
after villages in the Bardez province of North Goa. It is a
traditional Portuguese house approximately 150 years old. It
has been lovingly restored and is furnished to a high standard.
There is a central courtyard, which includes kitchen and dining
areas and a decorative water feature in the middle. There are 3
bedrooms with colonial 4-poster beds and adjoining bathrooms.
We now have air-conditioning in all the bedrooms as well as the
2 single beds that can be pushed together to create a double.
This extra space shares the bathroom and the air con with the
room below, so the space becomes a perfect family room.
The back veranda looks onto the lawn and garden. There is a
telephone and broadband in the house. Shyam our housekeeper
speaks English and is very friendly and helpful. He keeps the
house and garden clean and tidy, prepares breakfast and helps
generally with ordering taxis and mopeds etc. He also cares
for our dog Candy who loves the attention of visitors! Shyam
is married to Rohini who is also very sweet and is helping him
and improving her English. They have 2 young boys and live in
the cottage in the garden. The Alsatian in this photo is not with
us anymore. Candy is the small white dog in the photo above.
We offer you a simple breakfast of tea or coffee, fruit, muesli
and yogurt, eggs, fresh bread rolls, with butter and jam. Fried
eggs and omelettes are easy for Shyam, boiled, poached and
scrambled are a little more hit or miss! His Masala omelettes are
popular, but may take longer to prepare.
