Things to think about with 2-mallet technique

1) Your feet should be shoulder length apart. Never cross your legs while youre
playing. You should stand up straight and avoid leaning over the instrument.

2) The mallet should rest between the first knuckle of your index finger and the
pad of your thumb. This contact point is known as the fulcrum or pivot point of
the mallet.

3) The rest of your fingers should be wrapped around the mallet and relaxed, but the tips
of your fingers should always graze the palm of your hand.

4) The top of your hand should always face towards the sky, with just a slight
angle.

5) Your mallet heads should be slightly angled in towards each other.

6) Always start in the up position. Every stroke should go down and come
back up, imitating the look of natural rebound. When one hand is not playing, it
should stay in the up position.

7) It is important to play with a relaxed motion. The fulcrum should stay firm while the
back fingers relax and move with the stick. You should be using mostly wrist motion
and not fingers or arm.
8) Make sure the path of your mallets is vertical. You dont want to be striking at
an angle or you will have inefficient and inaccurate strokes.

9) You should always strive for a consistent sound between each note on each hand.
This will require a consistent firmness between your fulcrums, a consistent velocity of the
mallet, a consistent playing zone on the keyboard, a consistent height for each strike, and
striking with the same part of the mallet head each time. Notice the trend?
