SYNOPSIS

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES IN STANDARD


CHARTERED BANK
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
As we know services are a growing industry and many firms are striving to deliver value
added services to their customers. In this regard banks are continuously focusing towards
improving their services. Similar is the case with Standard Chartered Bank. This Bank has
evolved tremendously during the last couple of years and now has become one of the leading
banks in the country.
Keeping this in view the study has been undertaken to identify the strategies and plans of the
Bank and to identify the methods adopted by the Bank to train and motivate their people and
work force.

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY


The project has been undertaken to assess the Strategic Human Resource Management
practices of Standard Chartered Bank with the prime focus at formulation of strategies and
tactics and how it contributes in implementing the strategies

LITERATURE REVIEW
The researcher will be reviewing two recent articles which are related to the policy chanes
and the hiring of people by Standard Chartered Bank.
1. Policy changes more gradual than expected1- Published on May 18, 2016
Under this article, Standard Chartered Bank has said that the pace of policy changes
will be more gradual than initially expected. It is also said that more concrete
measures would be taken which will lead to creation of jobs in the bank.

2. Standard Chartered Bank to hire almost 1000 people 2- Published on June 06,
2016
Under this article, written about Standard Chartered Bank by Joel Rebello says that
the bank plans to step up recruitment in India in the next few quarters as part of
efforts to build up the lucrative but competitive retail lending segment to return to
growth even as it cleans up the corporate debt book.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
The research conducted is a qualitative research to find out the HR Management practices of
Standard Chartered bank. People who belong to this bank are considered as highly paid
people. The employees of the bank were selected as the population to carry out the research
that are the fully satisfied with the recruitment policies of their bank and their bank is
following the policies in a proper manner.
The data collected is through Primary and secondary sources and through the responses to the
questionnaires conducted. Also, through the Internet, published articles, interviews, books,
and HR manuals.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS
1. What is the meaning of HRM strategies and why is it important?
2. What are the various HRM strategies adopted by Standard Chartered Bank?

HYPOTHESIS
Due to large number of employees working in the current environment, it has become
impossible for the management to monitor the individual needs. Therefore, companies have a
human resource department which create a positive environment in the organization where
employees value adds consistently to the organization and to each other. Hence, it is

important to study that what all are the human resources strategies which are used by the
companies.
