Medical Microbiology

Instructor: Miss Bosse

Conference Period: 3rd period (10:05-11:05)
Room Number: 2100
Email: kbosse@lcisd.org
Medical Microbiology is a college preparatory class for students interested in pursuing a career in the medical
field. Students study the role of microbes in infectious diseases and the relationship between microbes and
health maintenance. This class wears two hats! It falls under the Career and Technology Education Department
(CTE) and is also a 4th year science credit.
Class Resources:
1. Notes will be provided in advance via Edmodo (code will be provided) or my website. An MLD will be
beneficial if you are unable to print the notes for some reason. Printed notes are preferred.
2. We will have a class set of books. See Ms. Johnson if you wish to check out a book for home.

Tutorials
If you need extra help please come to tutorials. It might also be beneficial to have a study buddy or a study group
to prepare for each quiz/test. Tutorial times are: Wednesday (3:45-4:15) and Thursday (7:40-8:10).
Tests
All science tests will be given on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Supplies

Students will need to have a 1 inch 3-ring binder. We will be using a binder to store all of our class material.
If typing notes it is encouraged to print out your notes and paste into the binder. Completion of the
microbiology notebook will be randomly checked for a minor grade.
Other supplies: hand sanitizer, antibacterial soap
B.Y.O.D. = Bring Your Own Device! We will embrace technology in this classroom. I encourage students
to bring their iPad, laptop, and cellphone to use during labs. I am a strong advocate of Microsofts One
Note for note taking, and while there is an app for the iPad, a laptop allows for more options and
features.

Grading Scale
- Major Grades: 60%
Includes:
o Tests
o Long-term
assignments/projects
o Major labs
Will have a minimum of three
grades in this category each six

If you are absent on a test day,
you have 1 week to come in and
make it up, after that time period,
you will receive a Zero! No
Exceptions. Example: If you are
absent on Friday, you have until

tests and go over them in class no
more than one week after the

Make-Up Work
If you are absent, you are responsible for getting make-up work. Students have a grace
period equal to the number of days missed to turn in makeup work. Turn in make-up work
as soon as possible so that you do not fall further behind.
In most cases, quizzes and tests will need to be made up outside of class time.
Any homework assigned prior to the absence must be turned in on the day you return.
If you know ahead of time that you will be absent, ask for assignments prior to the absence.
