Self Intro Speech

5-minute minimum
Detailed outline following the example provided.
Speech will be presented using the written manuscript-(this doesnt mean read cold from the paper-it
means you have the paper as a reference but you have practiced speaking your speech aloud and
can present it looking up often.)
Format:
Intro
Most Significant Person
Most Significant Place
Most Significant Activity
Most Significant Event
Most Significant Object
Conclusion
*Talk about the category in detail. Use names, be specific. Tell why it is important to you. What
impact has it been on your life? Answer the Why, What, How, Where and When questions. Dont give
any information you feel uncomfortable with.
*Plan about 70-75 seconds per category and 30-45 seconds for your introduction and conclusion.
**Time yourself aloud to make sure you have over 6 minutes of speaking. It is very likely that when
you present, you will lose about 30 seconds of time because of speaking quickly due to nerves.
*Attention Getters include:
Quotes
Anecdotes-personal stories
Shocking statistic or fact
Rhetorical Questions
Imagining scenarios (i.e. Picture yourself Imagine that)
*Conclusions also use attention getters to bring the speech full circle.
*You may use a theme if you wish, meaning that all of your significant sections would relate to each
other.
*You may bring your object in to show during your speech if you wish, but it is not required of the
assignment.
