6. JUSTIFICATION: (Description of the act, achievement, or service, including specific dates, places, and facts. If additional
space is required, continue on plain bond paper.)
Between 1 Sept 2012 and 25 March 2014, Cadet Senior Master Sgt. Dakota
Wagaman has distinguished himself from his peers in many ways.
I first took notice of Cadet Wagaman when he joined on our unit's newlyformed Honor Guard in Fall 2012. At the same time, I began to notice that Cadet
Wagaman would show at more than just Honor Guard events. He was ever present and the first to volunteer anytime the unit needed hands on deck.
For example, in October 2012, Sq. 11 assisted with the Aircraft Owners &
Pilots Association National Conference in Palm Springs. We were to help the
host fixed base operator with crowd control, direction -giving, and other guest
services for five days in a row, 12 hours a day. Our senior members rallied, and
so did our cadets. But, it was then-C/SrA Wagaman who showed up every single
day, for 5 days in a row. Wagaman came each afternoon immediately after his 8 th
grade school day ended, typically carrying his field uniform and boots to school,
changing on campus after class let out, and heading immediately to the airport.
He worked more hours during the activity than any other Sq. 11 member except
for our senior member project officer. His prof essionalism was noted by others; I
received numerous compliments about him from the FBO manager.
Since then, C/SMSgt Wagaman has continued this same dedication to CAP.
Never wavering, he is one of the first to show up and almost always the last to
leave. At an Oct. 2013 event, which started at 0500, he was on site early. When
the duty day was extended and location changed by event organizers, he quickly
coordinated with his family to make himself available, working an extra 4 hours.
Again, he was the only member other than the senior project officer and unit
commander to take on the extra shift.
In Fall 2013, Wagaman was promoted to Honor Guard commander. He
maintained our scheduled presentations for a private school varsity football team
on Friday nights, but wanting to do further outreach, he coordinated with the
principal and athletic director of the newly-formed Rancho Mirage High School to
present at their games, as well. During the season, Wagaman performed and
coordinated Thursday night presentations at Rancho Mirage while also
performing and coordinating his team for Friday night presentations at Desert
Christian Academy. Through his leadership and dedication, Sq. 11 became the
"home team" Honor Guard for 2 high schools. Several hundred peopl e saw our
cadets perform weekly leading to first-of-its kind regular outreach for the unit in
that magnitude.
He is quiet, but determined, focused, always reliable and trustworthy. He
conducts himself in a way that brings honor and credit upon himself, ou r unit,
Group 3, California Wing, and the Civil Air Patrol as a whole.
