Takin’ It to the Streets Happenin’ Every Week

Last Sunday, Pastor Mike exhorted each of us to be active in
igniting the flame of our faith and spreading our passion for Jesus
to others through serving them.
One way to do this is through the Takin’ It to the Streets
ministry outreach activities. We began this focused effort last
spring/summer and are eager to pursue the opportunities God
now has for us.
An exciting outcome
of our efforts last year is
an ongoing program at the
Oakridge neighborhood.
Last year we joined with
two other Des Moines-
area churches to create a
fun-filled summer festival
as a ministry outreach to
the residents of this housing complex. The event was an outstanding
success and is again on our schedule for August.
Due to our involvement there last year, we were able to partner
with yet another church to deliver a weekly Saturday morning
ministry to the children of Oakridge. Every Saturday, from 11AM
to noon, we join volunteers from Christian Life Assembly to
provide a meaningful hour of ministry to children at Oakridge.
In those 60 minutes, the children enjoy a biblical lesson, game,
time for singing, craft activities, and a snack. We have seen
strong relationships built as we invest ourselves in the lives of
these kids.
This is certainly a way that you can have an active and
meaningful role in our Takin’ It to the Streets ministry. To take

If your child has not already been enrolled in our Children’s
Ministry, a quick visit to the Children’s Ministry Registration
Station will provide you with temporary security tags and give us
the information we need to effectively minister to your child.
Infants & Preschool Children
Childcare and teaching are available during the 9:00 hour and 10:30 worship service
in the Nursery and Preschool Departments.
Kindergarten–4th Grade
During the 9:15 hour, K–4th graders meet in graded classroom groups for Bible
learning and fun.
K–2nd graders attend the first part of the 10:45 worship service with their families
and then are dismissed through the large black doors at the front of the auditorium
to attend their own age-appropriate children’s church, called KZ Church. Parents, we
encourage you to go with your children the first time they visit KZ Church.
3rd & 4th graders attend the worship service to listen and learn with their families.
Xtreme AM (5th & 6th Grade)
Our preteens meet in their own Xtreme spot, Room 205, at 9:15 for a time of Xtreme
learning, Xtreme prayer and Xtreme relationship-building, then join their families for
the 10:45 worship service.
Youth (Grade 7–12) & Adults
Groups for ADULTS and activities for YOUTH begin at 9:15AM. Stop by
the Welcome Center to find out about each of the groups and how to get there.
Cellular Phones & Pagers
Thank you for turning off, or muting, your cell phone, pager and other electronic
devices during this morning’s worship service.
Assistive Listening Devices
ALS devices are available for check-out at the Resource Center in the foyer.
AED (Automated External Defibrillator)/First-aid
Facilities for guests needing first aid, health counseling, and blood
pressure checks are provided by our Parish Nurses located in the west
hallway in Room 1117, Sundays, 10:30AM–Noon.

Faith Promise Giving 2008/2009
Anywhere, Anything, Any Cost! NOTES

Have you made your Faith Promise commitment for the up- Pastor Mike Rose Ignite: Anywhere
coming year? Making a Faith Promise is one way to share in the
amazing adventure of calling ALL people of the earth to come
worship the Lord. The only way we as a church can support our
missionaries and our short term teams is as you give.
Please pray about your part in supporting ministries here in
Des Moines and around the world.

Vehicles for our Missionaries

The Lord has allowed the Missions Council, through memo-
rial gifts and the sale of donated cars, to purchase two used
mini vans for missionaries to use on their furloughs. The Ginder
family will use a 2000 Honda Odyssey during their year of
furlough and the Appleby family will use a 2003 Dodge Caravan
this summer.
For many years, our mis-
sionaries were loaned cars that
had been donated to the church
for their use. However, the ideal
vehicle for a missionary family
to travel in is a MINI VAN!
Good, reliable mini vans are not often donated. So I praise God
for His leading and provision, and for each member on the Mis-
sions Council who helped make these vital decisions.

Bob & Lois Taber
Mission Board: OMS International
Location: Des Moines, Iowa
What do they do? Bob and Lois
pastored for 16 years and have
been missionaries for 41 years,
serving worldwide. They
currently serve on special
assignments overseas with
national churches and seminaries as well as here in North
America. Their meetings, seminars and retreats include
building strong Christian marriages and families, Christian
morals and ethics, shepherding, evangelism and deeper-life
ministries.
Prayer Requests:
• For safety in travel and good health as they serve with OMS
in extended missionary service.
• For the OMS Midwest Family Retreat, June 27-29 in India-
napolis, celebrating 50 years of ministry in Haiti.
• Praise: The Moscow Evangelical Christian Seminary, estab-
lished by OMS in 1992, recently regained its license.
• For ’06-’08 graduates of MECS Seminary, Youth Ministry
Department, as they serve in churches and camps all over
the former Soviet Union in eleven time zones.
• Funding for student scholarships.
Jeff & Melissa
Closed Country
What do they do? Jeff and Melissa serve in a restricted access
nation, both serving as English teachers at their host uni-
versity. Their primary focus is the 30,000 students in their
town. Their vision is to see a group of national teachers and
students meeting together regularly for worship and reaching
out to others in ministry. They seek to identify students with
spiritual interest. The JESUS film is an important tool.
Prayer Requests:
• For teachers next year—they are concerned that Mormons
and Bahai may have targeted their school.
• For wisdom in answering questions from students who want
to know why God permitted the earthquake.
• For encouraging believers who realize the need to be more
effective in sharing their faith.
• For personal Bible study times and growing in maturity.
• Opportunities to witness to professors on campus.

Vic & Gwen
Closed Country
What do they do? Having ministered since 1979 with another
mission, Vic and Gwen now provide biblical training for
Christians serving across cultures. They serve multiple
agencies and organizations through workshop coordination,
coaching and mentoring. They focus on working with emerg-
ing Asian organizations and facilitators as well as supporting
established North American partner organizations working
in the region.
Prayer Requests:
• For the process of registration of their organization—for
God’s will and funding.
• For several new staff who are joining the ministry this
month in the USA.
• For discernment and wisdom as they engage with young
people from other cultures and countries.
• For the ability to share important life lessons as well as
spiritual applications in such a way as to transcend language
as well as other barriers.
• That their lives will always be clear messages of God’s re-
demptive power and love.
Dr. Bill Becknell
Mission Board: Agape Medical Ministries
Location: Moscow, Russia
What does he do? As a physician, Dr. Bill serves
with medical and lay people, forming expedi-
tion teams that travel north to the Arctic
Tundra and Siberia. They supply and distribute Agape health
kits to the very poor and share Christ with many who have
never heard. Dr. Bill is the first American to receive a Family
Practice diploma from Russia. The ministry has helped start
43 churches and the medical staff has grown to 53.
Prayer Requests:
• Praise for Dr. Sergey and his
wife Olya who are joining the
ministry of Agape.
• Pray for funds needed to move
them to Moscow from Siberia;
for salary needs and rent.
• For Dr. Sergey’s need to return
to school for 6 months to be re-
trained as a Family Practitioner.
He is currently a Pediatrician.
• For finding a school for their
child and a place to live.

Grad Banquet/Service | June 1
Those who have RSVP’d and are planning to come to the
Grad banquet, please join us in the HUB room upstairs immedi-
ately following the 10:45 service. Lunch will begin at 12:30PM.
Waterskiing | June 8
Senior High: Bring $5 to help cover the price of gas and come
have an awesome time water skiing and tubing! Lake Panorama,
4–8PM. If you need to carpool, meet at the church by 3PM. Home
by 9PM!
Motorfest | June 15
This Father’s Day, June 15th, we are continuing to host Mo-
torfest as an outreach to the community. We need a lot of help to
make this happen. There will be plenty of areas where the teens
can help serve. Look for a list of needs on the Care & Communi-
cation Card and help serve as we celebrate our fathers.
Junior High Summer Camp! | June 22-27
Jr. High Summer Camp at Hidden Acres Christian Center
in Dayton, Iowa—Basic Training: Explorers B Residential
Camp. Cost is $250. Be sure to register as soon as possible to
reserve your space. All those who have completed 6-8th grade

Sleepy Hollow | June 22 | 6-8PM
Mini golf, rock walls and go-carts—OH MY! Enjoy one
go-kart race, one round of mini-golf, one climb on the climbing
