PSYCHOMOTOR ACTIVITIES.
a. What are the psychomotor skills?
Psychomotor skills are considered an area of knowledge which aims the whole development
of the individual: physical and mental, combining game and movement.
b. Safety
Safety is the most important fact to take into account when planning psychomotor activities .
The classroom is a limited space full of obstacles. Adapt the activities to the space and avoid
danger.
c. Material resources

Use big soft balls, balloons, hoops, pikes, mats, ropes, whistles, big bass drumsAsk the PE
teacher for materials.
d. Action songs
They are very useful and funny when planning psychomotor activities for preschoolers.
Combination of rhythm and movement help the learner to develop his/her body and his/her
perception of himself/herself of the world around.
e. Psychomotor games, examples
These are very simple games used to develop aspects such as: space perception, coordination,
aim skill, body language and body perception, reaction speed, memory, concentration,
relaxation and creativity.
1. BALLS RAIN
-Aspect to work: space perception.
-Age: 3-6 years.
-Material: balls, a rope to separate the field, and some colorful ribbons to identify the two
teams (blue and red).
-Development: divide the classroom in two halves, two fields, and the pupils into two teams,
one team is red and the other is blue. Well give all the children a ball which will be thrown to
the opposing team, when the teacher releases ribbons and they hit the floor. The team that
has fewer balls in its field wins.
-Rules: throw the ball gently to avoid any kind of harm.
-Timing: 3 or 4 minutes.

2. THE FROG
-Aspect to work: coordination and aim skill.
-Age: 3-6 years.
-Material: balls, a frog (it can be made of cardboard or you can buy a plastic one).
-Development: divide the class into two groups, these at the same time make a row. The game
consists of throwing a ball with care in order to introduce it inside the frogs mouth. The team
that will score more times will be the winner.
-Rules: throw the ball gently into the mouth of the frog.
-Timing: 5-minutes.
3. STORY ENGINE
-Aspect to work: body language.
-Age: 3-6 years.
-Material: a story chosen by the teacher.
-Development: the teacher reads a story and the children must interpret it by performing
actions that are narrated in the story.
-Rules: remain silent to listen to the story.
-Timing: depending on the duration of the story.
4. BOXES
-Aspect to work: body perception.
-Age: 3-6 years.
-Material: none.
-Development: children sit on the floor forming a box and have to follow the teacher
commands. Example: the boxes are opened and they become dogs, boxes are closed and they
keep silence, boxes open and become kittens, the boxes are closed...
-Rules: remain silent to hear the teacher orders.
-Timing: 4-5 minutes.
5. HOUSES AND TENANTS
-Aspect to work: reaction speed and coordination.
-Age: 3-6 years.
-Material: none.
-Development: the houses are formed with two children gathering raised arms. If its a big
group, you can play with four houses or more. The tenant is the child who gets between the
two children. When the teacher says "houses", they have to break down and go running to find
someone else to create the house and put a tenant inside the house who will be quiet. The
teacher can also say "tenant" and they have to leave the house and go running to look for
another house.
-Rules: remain silent to hear the teacher orders.
-Timing: 4-5 minutes.

6. WAGONS
-Aspect to work: reaction speed and space perception.
-Age: 3-6 years.
-Material: a whistle.
-Development: divide the class into five groups. Each group will be a train and each child a
wagon. Each wagon knows its position on the train. Finally, each train is assigned a station to
park. When the teacher whistles, trains will leave their station and move freely around the
classroom. When the teacher whistles again, the wagons break the train and move freely
around the classroom. When the teacher whistles for the third time, all the wagons run to
reach their stations and form the trains keeping the same position, as soon as possible.
-Rules: remain silent to listen to the whistle.
-Timing: 4-5 minutes.
7. WHAT WILL IT BE?
-Aspect to work: body perception, especially the sense of hearing.
-Age: 3-6 years.
-Material: recorded sounds and flashcards.
-Development: cover children's eyes and the teacher plays previously recorded sounds (for
example means of transport) and learners guess the sound.
-Rules: remain silent.
-Timing: 4-5 minutes.
8. SHAKE IT
- An aspect to work: memory and concentration.
-Age: 3-6 years.
- Material: colored ribbons.
-Development: relate the colors to a specific movement. Example: "red: all stop,; blue,
jump...."each color, an action. When the teacher shows the color, the children perform the
associated action.
- Rules: remain in silence and pay attention to the ribbons.
- Timing: 4-5 minutes.
9. TRUNKS
-Aspect to work: coordination
. -Age: 3-6 years.
-Material: none.
-Development: the pupils will be divided into groups of five and four of them lie down on the
floor, one next to another and the fifth pupil will pass over them. Then, he/she will lie on the
floor in the last position. The pupil who has been first in the row passes over and so on.
-Rules: pass with care.
-Timing: 4-5 minutes.

10. RELAX
-Aspect to work: relaxation of the body.
-Age: 3-6 years.
-Material: mats.
-Development: pupils lie on mats and listen to the teachers directions to get relax (close your
eyes, breath in, breath out, etc.).
-Rules: remain silent.
-Timing: 4-5 minutes.
11. STATUES
-Aspect to work: coordination and creativity.
-Age: 3-6years.
-Material: none.
-Development: pupils will form a row and one of make a rare statue. The rest of the classmates
will imitate him.
-Rules: remain in silence.
-Timing: 4-5 minutes
