****If assignments are not finished during class time it is the students responsibility to complete them on their
own time****
Make-Up Work Policy
Students are able to make up work for any excused absence, this includes ISS or OSS. The student has to make
up missing assignments within the time frame that they were absent or they will receive a zero for the
assignment. For example, if a student has two consecutive excused absences, they will have two days upon
return to school to make up their work. It is the students responsibility to ask for make-up work and arrange
time with teacher to complete their assignments.
Composition Book Check: Composition Books will contain daily work, warm ups and other class assignments.
They should be kept up to date at all times. Comp. books will be checked at random for daily grades. Comp.
Books may not be returned the same day. Students who do not turn in composition book when requested will
be considered to be turning in their notebook late. The composition book should be brought to class each
day.
Folder Check: Folders will be turned in at the end of every unit at the time of the unit test, or other pre-assigned
date. As we are working on each unit, assignments will be given, with instructions for completing the folders.
Folders which are not available at the time of the unit test will be considered late.
Textbook: Health Science Fundamentals Revised 1st edition Badasch, Chesebro
We have a class set of this textbook meaning that the textbooks will stay in the classroom. However, the
students may check out a book when needed. All the students have to do is sign to book out and then back in
once they return the book.
Teacher Blog:
I am new to Allatoona but I am revising my blog and will have it ready on or before 9-1-16.
www.drsmespinoza.com The blog will be updated weekly with class topics, assignments, reminders, Hosa
activities and other class information. In the meantime, we are using Edmodo. Please contact me for a class
code, as it periodically resets and changes.
Classroom Expectations: Students must abide by the following rules while in my class:
1. Students should strive to demonstrate professionalism and to develop excellent employability skills.
2. Students must respect classmates, teachers, and administration at all times.
3. Food and drink privileges will be revoked if trash is not properly put in trash cans.
4. No talking while teacher is giving instruction.
5. Raise your hand to be acknowledged by the teacher.
6. Avoid touching lab equipment without permission.
7. Abide by the student handbook
Technology: Unless students are given permission, for an assignment, phones, ear buds, headphones, and other
devices should not be out or visible during class. We will be using technology in class on a regular basis and
there will be times when students are given permission to use personal devices. Avoid issues by asking first if
instructions are not given to use devices. Students may not charge devices in class, unless permission is given.
Violations will follow the school policy. Please read and be familiar with the policy in the student handbook.
SOCIAL MEDIA: We will be using Remind throughout the school year. This will be used to give out information
and reminders about what is going on in class and also HOSA updates. THIS IS TO BE USED STRICTLY AS AN
EDUCATIONAL TOOL. Any derogatory remarks or comments will result in dismissal from website, club, and an
administration referral.
Consequences: If a student chooses to not follow the classroom expectations, the result may be:
Change seats
Office referral
Detention
Other appropriate consequences
MATURE/SENSITIVE CONTENT: This class is intended to assist in preparing students for careers and postsecondary
education in the healthcare field. Due to the nature of this course, medical related video clips are shown.
Textbooks, which are used in class, including Diversified Health Occupations, By Cengage Learning, and
assorted anatomy texts and atlases, contain pictures of medical procedures, injuries, human anatomy,
diseases, and conditions. Mature topics are also discussed in class. For example, in the Introduction class,
during the section of human growth and development, we will be discussing changes during each stage of life.
Second year students will be learning about human anatomy systems, diseases, and conditions. The mature
topics that are discussed are required in the healthcare pathway. If you have any concerns about your child
viewing any of the sensitive materials, please contact me and we will discuss an alternative assignment.
Hosa: Membership in the co-curricular organization Hosa, future health professionals, is highly recommended for
healthcare students. Membership dues are $40 for the academic year and should be submitted by the first
week of September.
