Ronpaul Aea was granted a deferred acceptance of guilty plea in 2010 to


third-degree assault. A domestic abuse charged was dropped. Aea's
sentence included domestic violence intervention services, parenting
classes, a $2,000 fine and community service. The firearms prohibition was
revoked for work purposes only.

Alan Ahn pleaded not guilty in September 2015 to multiple drug-related
charges, including promoting a harmful drug in the second degree. The case
is pending.

Kramer Aoki was indicted in November 2014 for third-degree sex assault
after he allegedly groped a teenage girl during a traffic stop. The charge

Joseph Bacera, a reserve officer, was sentenced to two years probation for
covering up the assaults of two game room patrons by another officer in
2014. The assaults were captured on video. Bacera also was fined $10,000.
A federal judge said the prosecution of Bacera and another officer, Nelson
Tamayori, and the resulting felony conviction would serve as deterrent to
other officers about breaking the law. The judge said imprisonment would
not be in the public interest.

Danny Balico was arrested in July 2016 on suspicion of drunk driving. The

Aaron Bernal was charged in 2010 with multiple counts of tampering with a
government record and theft, but he eventually was granted a deferred
acceptance of no contest plea for two of the tampering counts, while the
other charges were dismissed. The deferral period was six months. He was
ordered to pay an $800 fine.

The court in 2012 granted Patrick Bugarin a deferred acceptance of no


contest plea for his role in a scheme to gain overtime. He was one of a
group of officers implicated in the scheme. He received the deferral for a
charge of tampering with a government record. Other charges were
dismissed. He was fined $500.
The court in 2013 accepted Zelda Cabudol's deferred plea of no contest to
charges of third-degree theft and tampering with government records. She
was accused of falsifying time sheets.
Danson Cappo in October 2015 was granted a deferred acceptance of no
contest pleas to multiple charges related to assaulting his girlfriend and a
man at a night club. He was sentenced to four years probation. The
sentence included substance-abuse treatment.

Lyle Castro pleaded no contest to third-degree assault and was granted a


deferred plea in September 2014. The court set a three-month deferral
period, ordered him to pay a $75 probation fee, $55 crime compensation
fee and $500 to state general fund. Because this was an isolated incident,
the court did not impose anger management classes.
Eun Sik Choi was granted a deferred acceptance of a guilty plea in 2010 for
third-degree assault. The sentencing included parenting and domestic
violence intervention classes, 50 hours of community service and substance
abuse assessment.
Michael Steven Chu was sentenced to eight months in jail in 2013 for
conspiring to grow and possess marijuana to sell. He was arrested in April
2012 after federal agents discovered marijuana growing operations inside
his Mililani home and the apartment of his girlfriend.
Keoki Duarte was charged in July 2016 with unauthorized entry and
attempted unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and third-degree
assault after he allegedly beat a truck driver during a road rage incident.
The truck driver said his vehicle accidentally bumped Duarte's in December,
leading to the assault. The case is pending.
Christopher J. Fontanilla was granted a deferred acceptance of no contest
plea in 2011 to third-degree assault. The deferral period was for 90 days,
and there were no other conditions imposed.

Kevin Fujioka was convicted in 2010 with misdemeanor driving under the
influence and marijuana charges in Las Vegas. He was ordered to pay $580
in fines and fees. Fujioka was fired from HPD but later got his job back
after successfully appealing the termination.

Dave Furtado was indicted on multiple felony charges in 2011. He was


granted deferred acceptance of no contest pleas to theft charges and
deferrals to identity theft, unauthorized possession of confidential
information and forgery counts. He was ordered to pay a $2,500 fine and

Cheyanne Garcia was indicted in 2011 for insurance fraud and attempted
second-degree theft stemming from an insurance claim she made after a
fender bender. A judge in 2012 granted her request for a deferred plea of
no contest. If she stays out of trouble for five years, the charges will be
dismissed.
The court in 2010 granted Dustin Hao a deferred acceptance of no contest
plea to third-degree assault. His sentence included anger management
classes and paying restitution.
Richard Jang in 2010 was charged with third-degree assault, but the case
resulted in a mistrial as it went to the jury. In 1997, Jang pleaded guilty to
a reduced charge of third-degree assault and was placed on a year of
probation.
Boyd Kamikawa in 2011 was sentenced to 30 days in jail and 300 hours of
community service for negligent injury stemming from an accident in which
he hit a pedestrian. He was driving with a revoked license and driving
under the influence, according to court records.
A jury in 2011 acquitted Leighton Kato of tampering with a government
record and being an accomplice to third-degree theft.
Jason Kawabata was arrested in 2010 for allegedly abusing a household
member, but prosecutors declined to pursue a case, citing insufficient
evidence.

Anson Kimura pleaded guilty in August 2016 to second-degree assault in


connection with the accidental shooting of a bartender at a King Street bar.
Kimura was placed on restrictive duty after the April 2015 shooting and
retired a month later. His sentencing is set for October. Prosecutors plan to
seek a five-year term.
Scott Kobayashi was arrested for suspicion of domestic abuse in October
2014. But prosecutors opted not to pursue the case.
A jury in 2011 acquitted Michael Krekel on charges of tampering with a
government record. Several other defendants in the case, which involved
accusations of falsifying overtime records, received deferred pleas to
various charges.
Maulia Labarre was arrested in April 2016 on suspicion of bribery,
prostitution and illegal use of a computer. No charges have been filed, as of
mid August 2016.
Jessie Laconsay was charged in June 2016 with multiple counts of first- and
third-degree sex assault for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl. The case is
pending.
Nicholas Masagatani was indicted in December 2014 for several counts of
sex assault. But the indictment was dismissed in May 2015 over procedural
defects during questioning before the grand jury.

Vincent Morre in 2015 was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for the
September 2014 unprovoked beating of two men in a video game room. His
report on the incident did not disclose the assaults. But surveillance video
captured them, leading to HPD and FBI investigations. Morre resigned from
the force after pleading guilty to depriving the victims of their
constitutional rights while under color of the law.

Brian J. Morris pleaded guilty in 2011 to tampering with a government


record but was granted a deferred acceptance of the plea. Morris was one
of seven officers charged in what prosecutors said was a scheme to collect
overtime pay.

with shoplifting at a Pearl City store. He pleaded no contest and was
granted a deferred plea. The charge was dismissed.

Wayne Raquino in 2012 pleaded guilty to making false statements to


federal investigators. He was sentenced to four months in prison. He
admitted lying about disclosing the identity of an undercover police officer
and providing information on how to evade police surveillance to a drug

In March 2016, Landon Rudolfo pleaded guilty to knowingly buying and then
selling a stolen vehicle in 2011. Though he faced up to 10 years in prison,
Rudolfo was sentenced in July to three months in jail and three months
home confinement. HPD said at the time that Rudolfo, who was on the
department's officer roster as of late April, was fired in May.

Siave Seti was captured on video slamming a man to the pavement and was
charged in July 2015 with misdemeanor assault. A jury in March 2016 found
him not guilty.

Ikaika A. Silva, who was arrested in 2010, was charged with harassment,
but the case was dismissed in March 2011 after the alleged victim became
uncooperative and evaded getting served, according to court records.

Shayne Souza pleaded guilty in April 2010 to obstructing a public officer in
Las Vegas. A misdemeanor marijuana charge was dismissed. Souza was fired
from HPD.

Richard Staszyn pleaded no contest to criminal trespass in the second


degree and fourth-degree criminal property damage in October 2015; the
court granted him a deferred plea for six months, and he was required to
pay a $125 general fund contribution, $30 crime victim fee and a $75
probation fee.
A jury in 2013 found Dennis G. Stone Jr. not guilty of third-degree assault.
HPD fired him but he eventually got his job back, according to media
reports.

Nelson Tamayori was sentenced to two years probation for covering up the
assaults of two game room patrons by another officer in 2014. The assaults
were captured on video. The federal judge said the prosecution of
Tamayori and Joseph Bacera, a reserve officer, for covering up the assaults
and their felony conviction would serve as deterrents to other officers
about breaking the law. He said imprisonment would not be in the public
interest.
Michael Tarmoun was found guilty in June 2011 of second-degree sex
assault of a Waikiki prostitute. He fled the state and country before his
sentencing.
Mitchell Tojio and Jim Yasue were charged in 2011 with tampering with a
government record in a worker's comp fraud case. The charge eventually
was dismissed.
Roddy Tsunezumi pleaded guilty in July 2014 to extorting money from a bar
owner in exchange for protection from a kidnapping and robbery plot. He
was sentenced to 33 months in prison.
Scott Valdez charged in 2010 with criminal property damage and
unauthorized entry into vehicle. He was accused of attacking a teen
motorist during a traffic stop, according to news stories. A jury deadlocked,
leading to a mistrial. The charges later were dismissed.
Ming Y. Wang in April 2010 was granted a deferred acceptance of guilty plea
to assault and harassment. The court established a one year deferral and
ordered him to get domestic violence intervention services, mental health
assessment, parenting classes and 50 hours of community service.
A judge in 2011 dismissed an assault charge against Mark Ward after the
alleged victim did not show up for the trial.
Henny Wasson was charged with third-degree assault in 2010, but a jury
was unable to reach a verdict, resulting in a mistrial.
Colin Wong was arrested in March 2013 for allegedly driving under the
influence of an intoxicant. He was found guilty in 2014.
Jim Yasue, along with officer Mitchell Tojio, was charged with tampering
with a government record in 2011. The case eventually was dismissed.

Duke Zoller pleaded no contest in 2012 to tampering with government


records and was granted a deferred plea. He also was fined $800. The
charge eventually was dismissed. Zoller was among seven officers charged
