The specific location of Bulgaria and climatic conditions create a habitat of many plant species and Bulgarian

nature is the source of one of the richest assortments of herbs. Despite the many herbs that are used in
traditional and modern medicine, one that connects to our country is Tribulus terrestris. Tribulus is known for its
many beneficial properties attributed to it by folk medicine. In recent decades, it is one of the few herbs that
stand in the elite of dietary supplements and is among the most popular products in the sports supplementation.
What is Tribulus Terrestris?
Tribulus terrestris is an annual plant, which is known in traditional Bulgarian medicine named "Tribulus" and in
other parts of the world call it cat head, bulls head devilish thorns devil eyelash. The names of the herb comes
from its curious appearance, which includes hairy stems and leaves, and small spikes on the fetus. The herb is
found in southern Europe and parts of western Asia and in China.
The fruits of Tribulus are popular in medicine, such as are used for the treatment of ocular problems, edema,
hypertension and heart disease. Useful properties of Tribulus are popular in Ayurvedic medicine, which are
associated with the treatment of impotence, poor appetite, heart disease, jaundice and pain.
The root and fruit of Tribulus terrestris have the highest content of active ingredients it contains some steroidal
saponins, proteins, phenols, flavonoids, glycosides and large amounts of vitamin C.
Tribulus species and how their different extracts of active ingredients
Tribulus is a common herb in Europe and Asia, in different geographical areas found significant differences in
the proportion of active plant substances.
Protodiostsinat, which is the most active saponin in triblusa and who allegedly has muskuloizgrazhdashti
properties is contained in the largest quantities in Bulgarian, Turkish and gatherings in Macedonia Tribulus.
These three types contained almost twice as much protodioscin than other species.
Moreover, Indian and Vietnamese Tribulus missing important steroidal saponins as tribestin and prototribestin
but tribulozin concentrations are several times more.
Scientists found that the geographic location affects the balance of saponins as Tribulus growing in South East
Europe and West Asia is very rich protodioscin and those in South Asia and the Far East is rich in saponins
tribulozin and gitogenni.
There are other types of Tribulus, which differ in their content of active ingredients. Tribulus pentandrus is
extremely rich in bioflavonoids such as quercetin, kaempferol and tricine, it exerts a powerful antioxidant
properties.
Tritsinat completely lacking in Tribulus terrestris. Another popular type used in some sports formulas is
Tribulus alatus, which contains steroidal glycosides similar to those in trubulus terrestris. There is a study that
demonstrates the ability of Tribulus alatus to increased testosterone in rats.
How does Tribulus Terrestris?
Like most herbs, and trubulus terrestris has a whole complex of bioactive plant substances that can affect certain
processes in the body.
Tribulus is rich in saponins, which are derived metabolic substances in plants. Saponins in Tribulus are based on
steroid skeleton and therefore they are called steroidal saponins.
The main steroid saponin in Tribulus terrestris is protodioscin, which in some cases may constitute up to 45%

by weight of dry extract. Other saponins in Tribulus are psevdoprotodiostsin, dioscin, tribulozin, prototribestin
and tribestin, spirostanol and furostanol.
Despite many conflicting data, the researchers argue that the main mechanism of action of Tribulus is bound by
its effect on hormones. In men, it increases luteinizing hormone in the testes, which is formed by testosterone.
In women not Tribulus increases testosterone and regulate female hormones.
Of the other active substances in the herb phenols constitute about 18% of the water extract and vitamin C
concentrations reach 900 mg per 100 g. This implies certain antioxidant properties of the herb.
What to combine Tribulus Terrestris?
Tribulus is an herb that is not expressed by the side effects and adverse reactions with other similar herbs or
substances and therefore can be combined with a wide range of nutritional supplements.
If the user aims to stimulate hormones and assume that Tribulus has a positive influence on them, then the herb
can be combined with other herbs like nettle root, Sao Palmetto, Epimedium, amino acids such as D-aspartic
acid or micronutrients such as zinc, magnesium and vitamin D.
To increase muscle mass suitable combination with creatine monohydrate, whey protein and leucine. Old
School in the gym and bodybuilding recommends combining Tribulus with ecdysterone, as most potential
would extract levzeya, the only source of ecdysterone that shows the benefits of research. The combination of
Tribulus and levzeya demonstrated improved libido and quality of sperm.
Recommended doses
Manufacturers of food supplements recommended intake of Tribulus from 500 to 1000 mg, 1 to 3 times daily.
Because the half-life of the oils was 8 hours are recommended to take into three equal time intervals. Tribulus
can be taken on an empty stomach before or after meals.
Although not toxic in recommended doses, Tribulus can be dangerous when taken in extremely high amounts.
In a rat study, scientists found that a dose equivalent to 80 mg / kg weight of human being, is completely safe
and non-toxic. On the other hand higher doses and doses of about 118-143 mg / kg bw can be extremely
dangerous and toxic.
