DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
STATEMENT OF THE DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
We aim to develop the area towards a desired image that is consistent with its
cultural, social, economic and aesthetic values. The visitors are welcomed by
the statue of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo throught a remodeled frontage of the park.
Adjacent to it are new installments promoting architectural appeal and a portion
of history with regards to Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo's wife. Also, an alternative
entrance to the park shows a garden which has a spanish influence; since the
hero's name is heavily incorporated with the Spaniards, it is only fitting for them
to have their identity within the park. Additional open area spaces are added to
the park which promotes recreation and interaction, like: the ampitheater, skatepark
and the fireplace. The ampitheater creates a new location opportunity for performers
to present their plays. The proposed skatepark is a permanent place for the
skateboarders and cyclists to practice. Baguio has a lot of people who are inclined
and interested in skateboarding, in-line boarding and BMX cycling, but don't have
the space they need. In addition, the one in Burnham is much too small to
accommodate a big number and is only temporary. The fireplace, maze, gazebo,
waiting area and the landscape zone are part of the new installments which are
intended for general relations. The current facilities are kept but the stage is
renovated. The original canal width was widened for flood prevention and green
screens are positioned by the canal to buffer any unappealing odor and landscape
aesthetics. Pathways are added for improve walkability and strengthen connectivity
around the park, and trees are placed next to it for a streetscape. A portion of the
park is retained as an open space for future expansion. CCTV's are proposed for
the security of the park visitors.
