Purpose of Evaluation
To encourage high-level performance by employees.
To clarify expectations and procedures of each employee at the beginning of the appraisal
process and periodically throughout that process.
To provide direct, constructive feedback about the employees performance, identifying
strengths and areas of improvement.
To encourage a dialogue between administrator and the employee about the employees
performance.
To serve as a guide for making employment decisions.

The Rating Scale


EXCELLENT

Frequently exceeds established standards or objectives. Often demonstrates


initiative and creativity. Performs consistently at a high level.

SATISFACTORY

Generally meets and occasionally exceed established standards or objectives.


Performs reliably and requires only normal supervision and follow-up.

NEEDS IMPROVEMENT

Performs somewhat below the completely satisfactory level. Does not fully meet
established standards or objectives, and often requires close supervision and
corrective action.

UNSATISFACTORY

Performs at an unacceptable level, which results in poor performance in


departments operations and/or other employees. Does not meet objectives or
fulfill job responsibilities.
This rating should only be used in cases where efforts to develop employees
performance have been established and have proved to be unsuccessful.
