Analysis

In this experiment, we used the following equipment optical bench, 2 light

source, photometer and base, neutral density filters and polarizer with holder. Table
1 is all about inverse square law. We set the 2 light source that are facing to each
other by 80 cm distance from the optic bench. On each trial we adjust the
transmittance from 100, 75, 50, and 25 percent at r=30 and 45 cm. Every records,
the light source is adjust so that both of them has an equal brightness of the
indicator. It can be observed that as we decrease the transmittance the range also
decreases.
On table 2, is all about Polarization. We had the same set-up like on table 1
but we add the polarizer between the light source and photometer. In this table in
every record, the transmittance is also changed every trial from 100, 75, 50 and 25
%, and the polarizer is also adjust to 0 and 90 degrees and while it is rotated. It can
also observed that as we decrease the transmittance the angle also decreases.
Possible source of errors are inaccurate looking through the eyepiece of the
photometer since it is hard to say if the both light had the same color or both
orange.

Conclusion
In this experiment entitled, Photometry. The first part is about the inverse
square law. The relationship is given by

I 1 r 21
r 2=
I2

. In this experiment, the 2 light

source is place at the both end of bench between the photometer and it can be
observed that as we decreases the transmittance the range also decreases, so it
can be say that they are directly proportional to each other. It can also observed
that r1 is directly proportional to the r2 since when the r1 is higher the r2 also
increased but still decreases as the transmittance decreases.
The second part is about the polarization. The relationship is given by

=cos1

I1
I2

. In this part we apply the same concept of part 1 but with the

polarizer. It can be observed that when the angle is 0 degrees, both have the same
brightness, while when 90 degrees, the light source 2 is brighter than light 1 while
when polarizer are rotated, the light1 is getting darker.
