Dear Falcons,

Overall, we are much better off than our general appearance shows
right now. So much work is being completed each day. Demo moves
quickly - finish work moves slowly. We must understand and accept
that we are experiencing delays and that we will open with some work
not complete. We will work to minimize these delays on our daily
operation and operate much as we have when work was being
completed the entire second semester while we were open. Work will
continue in September both during school hours and after school
hours. In addition to the general update I sent the entire district, I'd
like to share the following information with you. Excuse the bullet's,
but since you are well aware of the scope of the project, it's probably
easiest to follow. This information is in no particular order and
district projects are commingled with referendum projects.
1. New ceilings in the hallways scheduled for summer work are just
about complete. Wiring was bundled and organized throughout the
school. We await inspections. Lights and tiles will follow.
2. Some classroom ceilings will not have ceiling tiles in place when
school opens.
3. New power was pulled (is being pulled) to teacher computers,
smart boards and projectors using new conduit, ceiling plates and
electrical boxes.
3. All air conditioning units are operational in the 100 wing and are
running well.
4. Our HVAC contractor is working behind our general contractor to
have as many classroom units as possible working throughout the
school. However, as I have reported, it is more likely that these units
will be operational as they get to them each day after school begins.
5. HVAC work in the Gymnasiums, Weight Room, Dance, Culinary,
Wood shop and Faculty Dining Room is scheduled to begin in
September and will be completed in December.
6. Our new front canopy will not be ready for the opening of
school. New columns and concrete work is being poured this
week. Steel is being delivered in mid September.

7. 20 new teacher desks have arrived and are being assembled.

8. Shelves and old unit ventilators were demolished this summer. A
new table, lateral file cabinet and book shelf will be delivered to each
classroom.
9. Most classrooms and closets were painted.
10. The Library and Band Room each will receive a new ceiling, new
lights, new paint and new carpet. New computer furniture for the
Library too!
11. Our teacher team of painters were phenomenal completing so
much work in all three schools!
12. We are behind in tile and plumbing work in all student
bathrooms and the locker rooms. Bathrooms in the lower 300 and
100 wing were not renovated. Bathrooms near the Multi-Purpose
Room, the 200 and 300 wing will be ready, pending
inspections. Others will follow.
13. Absegami locker rooms are the priority right now. We follow with
completion just around the corner.
14. Our Buildings and Grounds staff is working to clean around
construction crews. Work on cleaning our floors will continue in
September.
15. Every hallway door will be replaced. This work will begin after
school hours in September.
16. The high school office renovation will be down to the wire. We
have a temporary office set up in the old Data Office . The main office
is getting painted, new ceiling, new carpet new lights, new AC, new
front counter, new furniture and a new glass hallway window wall.
17. The old Data Office will be our new Staff Mail Room/Work
Room. New mailboxes, storage, tables and chairs, computers and a
duplicator will be set up.
18. We have renovated classroom computer rooms 212, 307, 309 and
311. These computer rooms will likely not be operational for the start
of school. New furniture will be in place and computers set, but

power and data must be run following several inspections.

19. The new generator is set and operational.
20. All new power to the building was completed in the spring and
the amount of electrical upgrades to this building is really most
impressive. We tend to focus attention on the HVAC and Air
Conditioning, because that is what we feel, but the electrical upgrades
are truly amazing and long overdue.
21. Materials that were packed and labeled are being returned to your
rooms. We are always looking for miscellaneous furniture each
September, but we can expect to be looking for a bit more this year. If
it was labeled, it will be back in your room.
22. We did some renovation to the classroom area of the TV Studio
with more to follow when that wing is renovated in November.
In addition to our Buildings and Grounds staff, our Technology
Department is working double time to be certain our new network is
operational but also that the new wiring in every classroom is
completed and working. The heat is staggering but the work
continues.
I hope this update was useful and informative. James will provide
you with more information and direction in the coming days.
See you soon,

John J. Keenan
