Inthisunit,youhaveselfselectedoneworkofnonfictionthatfocusesononeofthefollowingsocialjusticeissues:hunger,
environmentalism,orthejudicialsystem.Youandthemembersofyoursmallgrouphavecreatedanightlyreadingassignmentagendathat
willhelpkeepyouontracktofinishthebookbytheendofthismonth.
Periodically,youwillmeetwithyoursmallgroupinLiteratureCircleMeetingstotouchbaseandrecapwhatyouhaveread
uptothatpoint.

ExpectationsforEffectiveLiteratureCircleMeetings
:
1. LiteratureCircleMeetingswilllastfor
30totalminutes
.Discussionleadersarechargedwithpreparingenoughquestionsand
followupquestionstofacilitatethisdiscussion.
2. Allgroupmembersareprepared,havingcompletedtheappropriatereadingaswellasindividualroles.
3. Allgroupmemberslistenpolitelyandchallengeeachothertothinkmorecritically.
4. Groupmembersusethetextasareference,insteadofspeculatingorstatingopinions.
5. Groupmembersworkcollaborativelytofilltheentirediscussiontimeandleavethemeetingwithadeeperunderstandingofthe
material.
FollowTheseStepstoGetSetUpWithYourGroup
:
1. First,nominateonegroupmembertocreateoneshared
GoogleDrivefolder
(createdbyonepersonandsharedwithallgroup
members
and
theteacher).
2. Withinthisfolder,createfoursmallerfolderstitled:Meeting#1,Meeting#2,Meeting#3,Meeting#4.
3. IneachMeetingfolder,youwillindividuallyuploaddocumentsthatsignifyyourcontributionsforeachoftheLiteratureCircleRoles
detailedonthenextpage.
a. EachdocumentshouldbetitledastheLiteratureCircleRoleandyourname,i.e.DiscussionLeaderMs.Hasebroock.
b. Alldocumentsmustbesubmittedtothesharedmeetingfolder
nolaterthantheendofthemeeting.
