Abstract
Background: Soy contain isoflavones compounds with phytoesterogen activity. Phytoesterogen had a similar effects with hormone estrogen. From the research in men, it is
known that phytoeserogen can decreased concentration of hormone testosterone, but in the other study phytoesterogen had not effect on testosterone concentrations. So it is
unclear how phytoesterogen influence on reproductive hormones in men.
Objective : This study aimed to determination effect of soy consumption on reproductive hormones in men.
Methods / Design : To review the scientific data that met the inclusion criteria. The scientific data obtained through PubMed and Google scholar databases using P =
Phytoesterogen in men , I = Soya , isoflavones , genistein , soy protein , C = Placebo , Meat diet , O = Reproductive hormones , Testosterone , Sex Hormone Binding Globulin
( SHBG ).
Outcome : The effect of soy consumption on the concentration of testosterone and Sex Hormone Binding Globuline ( SHBG ) in men.
Results : Analyzed effect of consumption soy isoflavone in the six study in humans, only one study showed a decrease of testosterone concentration, while the five journal showed
no effect on testosterone, and from two study in animals showed a decrease testosterone concentration. In addition analyzed six study in humans, just the one study showed a
decrease of SHBG levels, but the others study doesnt significant effect of soy isoflavone intake.
Conclusion : Consumption of soy isoflavone compounds doesnt significant effect on the concentration of testosterone and SHBG. In conclusion soy consumption doesnt side
effects associated with changes in reproductive hormones in men.
