PREFACE
The Digital Design laboratory has been established to give the students a hands-on
experience on performing experiments as well as design certain digital circuit based applications.
This laboratory manual has been prepared to supplement the course Digital Design (COE
A 203, ECE A 203 and EEE A 203). This course is offered in the first semester of second year
for the students of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Electronics and Communication
Engineering (ECE) and Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE). This is the first version of
the manual prepared by Dr. Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Professor of ECE and Mr. Sunil Kumar Dasari,
Assistant Professor ECE, of Presidency University Bangalore.
In the Digital Design laboratory, initially the students will perform experiments on basic
digital circuits and logic gates. Later they will design and perform experiments on Combinational
logic circuits as well as Sequential logic circuits. There will be 12 practical sessions which
include a few for practice and some for evaluation. On completion of the laboratory experiments
students will be able to design combinational circuits such as adders, subtractors, magnitude
comparators etc. besides the sequential circuits like latches, flip-flops, counters, registers etc.
Finally, they will also be able to design some basic building blocks of a computer.
Any improvements and feedback from the users will be duly appreciated.

PLUG AND CABLES

Access to plug and network ports must be kept free. Cables should be kept neat and routed so as
to prevent entanglement. Double adapters should not be used and the use of plug boards should
be avoided whenever possible.
ACCIDENT REPORTING
All accidents or near misses must be reported to the Administrator by those concerned or
involved immediately.
MONITORING
Safety issues are subject to continual review and monitoring. Additionally safety inspection of
all parts of the Lab is conducted annually to review, highlight and access potential risks.
RESPONSIBILITY
While it is the Departments responsibility to ensure, as far as possible, a safe working
environment, safe working practices and adequate training, it is the responsibility of all staff,
students and visitors to care for their own safety and the safety of others. This includes, but is
not limited to:1. Maintaining safe working practices.
2. Identifying possible hazards and bringing these promptly to the attention of those
responsible.
3. Undertaking any necessary safety precautions.
