1. Answer each of the questions regarding the experimental data shown in the table
below.
The observations were taken in the order that they appear in the table.
(a) Was the experiment done in random or standard order?
(b) How many replicates are there?
(c) Were the runs blocked, and if so, were runs randomized differently between the
different
blocks?
(d) Is the experiment balanced?
(e) What pairs of variables are confounded?
(f) Which variable is an uncontrolled covariate?
Answers:
(a) The experiment has been done randomly.
(b) There are five replicates in this experiments
(c) Yes the runs are blocked and yes the runs were randomized differently
between different blocks.
(d) Yes, Experiment is balanced.
(e) X3 & X5 variables are confounded.
(f) X1 variable are uncontrolled covariate.
2. With respect to Example 4.9 in the textbook, design an improved experiment to
determine the sensitivity of golf ball flight distance to temperature and explain how
the two experiments differ.
The different experiment that I will do to improve its data validity is to have
the experiment done in more random way than the batch way. Book explains the
experiments in a way that they did three blocks of experiment but each at a time
and not randomly between blocks. Three different blocks of balls will be randomly
selected to hit with the plunger and those balls can be with any temperature. What
this experiment will do is to eliminate the possibility of something different
happening at the end of the experiments that can manipulate the data for only one
king of block getting affected by it. So this experiment will give the random results
for different temperature at different time to validate the data correctly for this
experiment.
3. In Problem 4.2, suppose that golf balls come in packages of six and that you are
concerned that there might be significant differences between packages. How
should this new factor be integrated into the experiment design?

To eliminate the concern of a significant difference in the packages of the
ball, we can randomly choose the balls from each package to go on a different
scenario of the experiment differently. Use the balls from each package to go on
each condition and define to eliminate the difference. I would suggest marking the
balls from which package it comes from to determine the difference if there is any
on a particular package that can manipulate the results of this experiments.
4. An experiment with four unique runs in its design is to be built. Each run is to be
built three times. Write out possible orders for the experimental runs if: (a) the
experimental runs are to be performed in completely random order. (b) The
experiment is to be blocked on replicates. (c) The runs are to be built as repetitions.

6. Identify a relatively simple problem regarding a location or variation difference

between two treatments. Use the 11-step DOE process to study the situation and
prepare a brief presentation documenting each step.
Instead of creating a problem, I would like to take the same problem with
location difference as described in problem 5. Valve has difference in failure rate by
its location variance.
Step 1: Cause Effect Analysis
This analysis will provide all the variables responsible for this experiment to
conduct.
