Any unauthorized distribution is prohibited under law

Kindly go through the rules before selecting a project of your interest

1. Please note that Vaftsy Institute will provide you the training required for execution of the
project, and the student is expected to complete the project on his own, with guidance of our
experts
2. Kindly do not approach for readymade projects, note that 100% work is to be done by the
student, which includes all documentation
3. All Projects are Finite Element Analysis based, and will be solved in Software such as ANSYS.
4. The Student should go through the abstracts, do some background study, and primarily
identify the project with which they have maximum interest.
5. For obtaining further data, and allotment of project, the Student must submit a letter of
introduction from their college, indicating the project title, and a commitment that the data
made available for the project will be used only for academic purposes
Testing
1. Note that testing data will be released subject to Non disclosure agreements of the
company with its clients
2. It is not physically possible to be present at testing, as it requires special certification,
and also is conducted at times under toxic conditions, and require insurance and other
formalities, which cannot be conducted for individual students
3. FEA simulation done by student should come within 10-15% margin of tested results
to be approved for completion
4. In case there is a scaled model testing required, the student will be informed of the
requirements, and costs for those will be borne by the student
5. Even though the student is not present for test, the student is expected to know the
working principle and operative procedures of the test, for this the student can
consult the engineer concerned at Vaftsy
Theoretical Calculations
1. As an Mtech student, the student is expected to be proficient in subjects such as
Advanced Stress Analysis, Mechanical Design, Vibrations etc.
2. Additional the student will have to get well versed in specific international codes that
apply to their project.
3. To get analysis data, the student is expected to submit all theory calculations, note
that data is not released without completion of hand calculations
4. Student is also expected to purchase and keep a copy of theory book specifically
recommended for the projects

Project No B.1
Buckling Analysis of Plus shaped columns using Eigen Buckling FEA
Introduction:
Plus shaped beams are being used increasingly in the industry, however the strength of these
members is dependent on many factors, such type of welding, and the reinforcement plates that are
welded to it
Hence it is required to check the effect of these on Buckling strength of the column
Objective
The objectives of the project are

To perform standard calculations using SOM

To design and analyze Strength of Column in FEA

To Perform Buckling analysis on 3 different combinations of columns

To identify best combination using strength and Buckling load as criteria

To validate results with experimental observations and increase reliability of calculations

Project No B.2
Natural Frequency estimation of Connecting Rod
Introduction
Connecting rod's are important part of the engine setup, and one parameter that affects it's
performance is natural frequency of the rod.
The idea of the project is to create an optimized model of a webbed connecting rod, and see the effect
of material removal on its natural frequency
Objective
The objectives are

To perform a detailed FEA of connecting rod

Using Modal Analysis to optimize natural frequency of connecting rod

To validate FEA results with testing

Project no B.3
Natural Frequency Analysis of Two Wheeler Handle Bar
Introduction
Handle bar in a two wheeler is the point where vehicle gives feedback to the driver, however if the
natural frequency of the handle bar matches the frequency being generated by the engine, this may
result in resonance and un stability for the driver
Hence in some handle bars, dampers are added to the ends to reduce the effect of this vibration,
however if the damper is not proper it may just add weight and further reduce the frequency of the
bar.
Hence it is important to check the natural frequency of the bar
Objective
The objectives of the project are
To determine strength of handle bar

To perform natural frequency analysis on the bar

To check effect of adding mass on the frequency of the bar

Use experimental techniques to validate results

Project no B.4
Bending load optimization of a L Shaped Load Column-Beam (Jib Crane)
Introduction
L Shaped column beam combination is widely used in lifting mechanism like jib cranes. Such a
combination is very effective in space saving, however it creates a lot of bending load and moments at
the base of the column
hence entire stability depends on getting this combination right. To calculate this, FEA will be a good
tool as all non standard shapes can be incorporated into it.

Objective
The objectives are

To perform FEA on L Shaped Combination

To get strength results for 3 different combinations using stress analysis

To validate the results experimentally

To create an APDL program to execute future analysis for certain common crossections

Project no B.5
Natural Frequency analysis of shaft with gear mountings
Introduction
Shafts have their own dynamic characteristics and critical speed. However when a gear is added to
this, it changes the system, as weight is added eccentrically on the length of the shaft.
This will change the frequency of the system. Furthermore if the gear is engaged with another gear,
the boundary conditions change, and this will further alter the frequency of the system.
This is essential first step that needs to be studied when a gear box is designed, how the frequency of
the system changes with addition of components

Objective
The objectives of the project are

Modal Analysis of Shafts, Shaft with Gears, and Shaft with engaged gears
To understand the pattern in such changes

To validate the results experimentally

Note that this project is more on the research side, hence it is expected that the students doing this
project at least present their work in a conference and get published
