1.3. General information

1.3.1 Note at delivery
When the machine is delivered, the buyer must check that:
1. The order and delivery match perfectly.
2. The machine is in perfect condition with all parts free from defects.
If any discrepancy with either of these two points is noted, please contact ALBA, S.A. or its
area representative immediately.
1.3.2 Description
The C45H shear is a machine for cutting steel in either round, strip or square form. It is
hydraulically operated, resulting in a machine of compact size and very quiet operation.
Its main components are an oil tank, motor-pump set, and cutting head consisting of a cast steel
body and hydraulical cylinder.

2. SAFETY DEVICES
Although we can consider to the shears c45h as a machine with few complications in the aspect
of security, we should do some minimum considerations that will help to avoid some
unnecessary displeasure.
2.1. Cutting protector
In the first place we should have present that, although always we will be able to control the
movement of the mobile cleaver through the lever of operation, never we should work with the
protector of cut raised.

CUTTING GUARD

WARNING:
Working with the cutting guard lifted at the moment of cutting
may lead to one or more fingers being chopped off the hand.

2.2. Voltage
Before connecting the shear to the mains supply, always check that the supply voltage and
frequency are as indicated for the machine (usually 230/400V. - 50Hz. 220/400V. 60Hz.)
and particularly that the supply incorporates an EARTH TERMINAL and a DIFFERENTIAL
MAGNETO-THERMAL RELAY.

WARNING:
An unsuitable voltage or frequency may lead into a serious
damage to the electric motor, while the lack of a differential relay
or earth terminal may result in serious personal injury or even
death.

C45H SHEAR

Page:10

Material setting
When there is a clearance
between the material to be cut and
the body channel, make sure the
bearing side is supported as shown
in (1) in the figure, to avoid a
whiplash effect as the cut is
made (2).

Figura 4

WARNING:
Uncontrolled movement of the material to be cut, especially
involving bars of maximum diameter, may lead to operators
sufferings personal injury.

2.3. Other considerations

Given the nature of the material to be cut, in most cases corrugated steel, ALBA, S.A.
recommends that suitable safety clothing be worn (gloves, boots, leather aprons, etc.).

INFORMATION
Working without suitable safety clothing may cause grazes in
exposed parts of the body, and wear in items of clothing.

2.4. Safety conector

In case of power shutdown, the connector actuates by desconnecting the machine from the
mains, so when the power returns the start button (green) must be pressed again.
This is to prevent the machine starting uncontrolled when the power returns.

3. EXPECTED APPLICATIONS
The C45H shear is used in the building sector, mainly.
It is used to cut steel in the shape of:

solid round

square

flatbar

ribbed bar

For other applications, ASK THE MANUFACTURER BEFOREHAND

C45H SHEAR

Page:11

4. COMISIONING
There are no special conditions, in respect of machine siting, other than that the surface must be
level enough to avoid sliding caused by the small amount of vibration produced during cutting.
The electricity power supply, however, does need special attention.
- First, check that the supply to which the machine is to be connected is fitted with a
differential magneto- thermal relay and an earth terminal.
- Also check that the supply voltage and frequency are suitable (in this case the machine
operates at 230/400V. 50Hz or 220/440V. 60Hz)

WARNING:
The lack of a differential relay or earth terminal may result in
serious personal injury or even death, while an unsuitable
voltage or frequency may lead to serious damage to the electric
motor.

For reasons connected with safety during transport, our machines leave the factory without oil.
Before start them up, they must be filled with 38l of oil of any of the following types:
SHELL ....................................................... Tellus Oils 46
ESSO ................................................................ Nuto H 46
TEXACO ...............................................Rando Oil HD 46
TOTAL .........................................................Azolla ZS 46
ERTOIL ...............................................OLITRAN E.P. 46
MOBIL ................................................................. DTE 25
CEPSA .................................................................... EP 46
BRUGAROLAS .............................FLUID DRIVE HM 46
PENNZOIL ............................................................ AW 46

These oils are recommended for temperate climates. For hot climates, hydraulic oil of 68 rather
than 46 viscosity is recommended.
To fill in, proceed as follows:
Unscrew and get the guard loose.
Get the cover at the connector side loose and fill the oil in, up to the point where the visor
shows the oil level is more or less in the middle.
Replace the guard and screw it.

5. UTILIZACIN
Once the machine is connected to the mains supply, the working of the hydraulic unit must
be checked as follows:
- Press the start button and, after a few seconds, make a dry cut by pulling on the operating
lever.
- If the mobile blade performs the cutting movement, the machine is ready to use.
- If not, stop the machine, unplug the supply cable from the connection socket,
interchange the position of two phases and reconnect the machine to the supply.
- Repeart the cut simulation operation. The machine should now perform the cutting
action, indicating that it is ready for use.
Once the bar to be cut is placed, get the cutting guard lowered and actuate the start lever. Once
the bar has been cut, release the start lever. Do not keep it actuated, because the motor could
get burnt.

6. MANTENANCE
The machine should be checked periodically, and specially before operating it.
By simply looking at it we can detect any faults, dents, etc., which could result in a disfunction
when being handled. Should it be needed, the broken parts must be replaced with original new
ones. Never take a part off and continue working before it has been replaced.
6.1. LUBRICATION

LUBRICATION

It will be come to the lubrication of the machine, acting in

the lubricator indicated in the figure, every 2 days with fat
of Ltica base consistency 2 with MoS2 additive (Bisulfuro
of molybdenum).
IMPORTANT NOTE:
The blades have 8 cutting edges. The blade must be shifted
to a new edge when the current edge is notched or when
bars of maximum diameter become difficult to cut
Oil should be changed each 2000 hours work.

7. STORAGE
Although the machine can be handled outdoors, it is recommended to protect it from the rain
and humidity when it is working.
Clean it and store it under cover after each working day. It is necessary to prolongate its
working life.

8. FAULT LOCALIZATION
When the machines efficacy or the motors functionning are not correct, please check:

Voltage of the mains connection. A mains-voltage variation of 10% is acceptable

The blades cutting edges. In case of weardown or deterioration, just change their position

If after checking above points the machine still does not work properly, CONTACT THE
MANUFACTURER.

The oil must keep always the viscosity recommend by its manufacturer (grade 46, and in
hot climate countries grade 68). Nevertheless, it is recommended to change the oil in the
machine each 2000 hour work.

C45H SHEAR

Page:14

9. FORBIDDEN WAYS OF USE

Never use the shear:

Without a differential protection or without an electrical protection in the mains.

With the cutting guard off.

Without the safety clothing recommended for a safe handling (protective glasses, gloves,
etc.)

To cut materials other than the specified ones.

In underlighted places.

In explosive atmospheres.

Outdoors, under bad weather conditions.
